Beekit slowly opened his eyes to the sound of his mother's voice. "Wake up Beekit," she said. "I just had the weirdest dream," Beekit mumbled. "Nevermind that Beepaw, you're becoming an apprentice today," his mom replied. Suddenly, Beekit's excitement kicked in as he remembered that he, along with Cloverkit, Hazelkit, and Frostkit, were now six moons old and ready to begin their training as apprentices. The clan gathered around the Tall Rock as Morningstar's voice rang across the moor. "Let all cats old enough to run gather around the Tall Rock for a clan meeting!" she announced. "As you all know, four kits are becoming apprentices." The clan roared with excitement as Morningstar went on to announce the mentors for each apprentice. "Cloverpaw, you have been requested to be a med cat apprentice. Your mentor will be Cootface," Morningstar said, and the clan cheered. Cloverpaw, however, seemed unimpressed, showing no emotion as she stared blankly at everyone. "Hazelpaw, your mentor is Hawkeye," Morningstar continued. The clan erupted with cheers, and Hazelpaw waved her paws in the air, smiling happily. "Frostpaw, your mentor will be Sagenose," Morningstar announced, and the clan cheered once again. Frostpaw smiled with delight. Then came the announcement that Beekit had been eagerly anticipating. "Beepaw, your mentor will be... Slitthroat," Morningstar declared. There was murmuring throughout the clan, and Beepaw couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy. Was this a mistake? Why did he have to be mentored by Slitthroat? "Meeting dismissed. Apprentices, please see your mentors at Sunhigh tomorrow," Morningstar said, ending the meeting. As Beepaw left, he could still hear the clan murmuring about his mentor. The next day, Beepaw met his mentor, Slitthroat, for the first time. "Are you always this clumsy?" Slitthroat asked. Beepaw nervously replied, "No." "Well, you're scaring away all the prey," Slitthroat exclaimed “S-sorry” Beepaw apologized embarrassed. Slitthroat's piercing gaze bore into Beepaw as he fumbled and apologized for his clumsiness. "Don't say sorry, just get better," he growled, his voice laced with impatience. Beepaw felt a knot form in his stomach as he tried to muster a response. "Training dismissed," Slitthroat declared, turning away and padding off into the undergrowth. Beepaw stood there for a moment, feeling lost and uncertain about what he should do next. "I told you to go back home," Slitthroat growled with an intimidating voice, his piercing gaze fixed on Beepaw. The young apprentice stuttered and stumbled over his words as he tried to respond, "Y-yes, sir." END
