in 953 FNR began production of a New electric multiple unit for Suburban Rail service on lines Electrified at 1500V DC (Floridel and Platya) they had Stainless Steel Construction with 2 Diamond Pantographs as well as 2 mechanical doors (unlike the older manual doors), they were also the first fully Air-conditioned design of Suburban Trains they would typically operate in sets of M-T-T-T-M or M-T-T-T-M-T-T-T-M or M-T-T-T-M-T-T-M-T-T-T-M 540 Motor cars and 860 trailer cars were built between 953 and 962 they were also used on some intercity trains, they began retiring them in 993 although about half of the fleet were refurbished between 985 and 988 and were fitted with newer electronics and allowed compatiblity with the newer Signalling systems
