"She's been silent for too long." A silver wolf said, her slender form shining in the moonlight. A black raven nodded. "I agree." He said, "But I have not gotten any sign from the moon. Have you?" The wolf shook her head, looking up at the full moon. "I have not. It's been three shifts since the last one." The raven was quiet, considering the wolf's words. At last, he said, "Shimmer, we should send a sign to the creatures." Shimmer quickly glanced at the Raven. "Reflection!" She exclaimed, "We can't! Not without a sign. What would Luminous think?" She asked. Reflection shrugged, it didn't matter to him. "You are nearing your thousandth shift. Although the creatures may be at peace, you need to choose a successor anyway." Shimmer huffed. "I will choose a successor when the moon sends a sign!" She said, shooting an annoyed glance at Reflection. "Do not pretend you know what I should do. You've been an Elder for barely three shifts. You don't know how to choose a successor. You’ve never been on the other side. Don't pretend you know what I should do." Reflection hesitated, then bowed his feathered head. "I apologize, Shimmer. I'm only concerned about the well-being of our creatures." With that, he spread his wings and flew away. Shimmer stared at him for a moment, then glanced at the moon. Suddenly, she felt an odd feeling. It was the same feeling she always got when she received a sign. "Thank Moonlight." She whispered, closing her eyes, ready to receive the sign.
