“Purah, wake up!!!” I groaned and rolled over in bed trying to push my annoying sister’s voice out of my mind. I wanted to keep desperately trying to cling to my dream. Waking up was the last thing I wanted. I could still see Robbie against the sunset, feel him holding my hand. “I love you, please don’t leave Purah…” But I could feel my hand slipping away from his against my will. “Puraaaah! Wake Up!” my little sister whined. I groaned as I opened my eyes, unable to stand my sister’s screams in my ear any longer. “I ask for one thing Impa, ONLY ONE! It’s not that hard to let me sleep on weekends, is it?!” Through my half shut eyes I could see her face redden. “I’m sorry but it’s not the weekend,” Impa said softly. “It’s Monday. The first Monday of summer vacation.” That’s when everything came rushing back to my brain. I groaned again and sat up on my bed. Impa was already dressed in a loose tee shirt and jean shorts she hemmed. Her long white hair was in a messy bun with a purple hair tie. She was two months younger than me but it felt like two years with how energetic she always was. “Go downstairs and have some breakfast. Where’s mom and dad?” I asked her. “They left already and I already ate.” That’s right, I remembered now.
Our parents work at a hospital about an hour away and they got a bonus that if they work every day in summer except on weekends, they’ll get a huge bonus. We’re talking 20,000 per person or more. They couldn’t refuse. That means we’re gonna have the whole summer to ourselves. Our parents trust us to be alone all the time otherwise they wouldn’t have taken the job. Impa has no track meets or sparring/jiu jitsu matches during the summer so I don’t have to take her anywhere I don’t want too. I know how to drive (even though I’m 14) but my parents still make me take the bus everywhere. “Come on Purah! Hurry up and get dressed. We should go on a walk while we still can!” Impa called from the bottom of the stairs. I groaned again and shut my door to dress. I love Impa but she has more energy than a 25 pack of Rockstars. She always needs to be doing something or her brian will explode. She’s played too many sports to count and has straight A’s in school. On the other hand, I’m in all honors and have had a 5.0 gpa my whole life. I love tinkering with my gears and wires and making things. That’s why nobody dares to go into the attic anymore. I turned it into my lab and will seriously maim anyone who messes with my experiments or prototypes. I tend to leave my stuff all over the place too so my whole family knows better. But it’s not like I’m the only one who has taken over a designated area of the house. Impa turned our basement into a personal training gym. She put up posters and has a boombox and a punching bag in there. Then a swift and annoyingly repetitive knocking came to break down my door. “Puraaaah, stop taking forever! I want to go on a walk before it’s hot enough to melt me!” I threw on the first shirt and pair of shorts I could find and rapidly combed my hair and put on my hairband to block white blond hair from getting in my face. I was downstairs in five minutes and rapidly started to eat a bowl of honey nut chex. It was my favorite cereal. Ten minutes later I had grabbed my phone which had about a hundred messages from my friends and looked at myself in the mirror by the door while waiting for Impa to get her shoes. Who’s taking forever now I thought. I had put on my favorite tank top which was black with a red Sheikah eye and the words underneath it. I also was wearing my denim shorts which I hemmed and made out of old jeans. My maroon red hairband contrasted with my white hair. Then Impa came flying down the stairs madly trying to tie her shoes as she went. “You’re gonna crack your head open if you keep doing that. It won’t kill you to be more careful.”I screamed at her. Sometimes I wonder if she even has a sense of danger at all. “Sorry Purah.” she called from the bottom of the stairs. “Let’s go,” I say after I usher out the door into the already warm day. I pulled my necklace of keys out from under my shirt, which sometimes tangles with scapulare ( I also keep it under my shirt), and picked out the door key to lock it. I’ve had my necklace of keys since I was born and have never taken it off. It has all kinds of keys from door keys, to locker keys, and antique pretty keys that nobody can remember what they go to. I put them all on my necklace and that’s where they stay in case I ever need them. “So Impa, where do you want to walk so bad?” I asked. “I have no clue.” she answered. “Then why did you want to leave so much?” I asked, already annoyed. “Because I knew that if I didn’t push you out of the house at the beginning of the day, you would lock yourself in your attic tinkering with your little experiments or whatever you do up there. Anyway, maybe we could go visit Robbie.” Impa tried to say the last sentence coolly but she couldn’t hide her amusement. “Why not,” I said. “He’s the only one of our friends who lives in our town.” “You finally gonna ask him out?” Impa said with a smirk on her face. “Yes, I will.” After the sadness I felt after saying goodbye to him at graduation (even more so than the rest of my friends), I was dying to see him again. “Now, let’s go see Robbie.” -=- Chapter 2 will be out by next week :) -=- Also there's a relationships map on the next slide
