This is a remake of an old game I made in 2022! He likes collecting lots and lots of flags, And now he has filled up 17 bags, Red, Green, Pink, White, Orange and Maroon, In fact every single colour apart from blue! This is NOT my project. All I did was add two small quality of life features to make jumping feel more responsive, fixing two common problems that come with the uneven level design (the player being airborne while very close to the ground, losing their jump in the process): 1. Coyote time When leaving the ground, you still have 10 more frames (in Scratch, 10 thirtieths of a second) to jump afterwards. This is a very common trick used in many popular platformer games similar to this one to significantly reduce that feeling of "But I jumped!". Previously, the game would say: "Yes, you did. You were just one frame too late. So no jump for you!" Now, the game says: "You're not quite on the ground anymore... ah, fine, it wasn't that long ago you were still on the ground. Here you go." 2. Quick check to see if you're CLOSE TO (not neccicarily ON) the ground This is easiest to explain using an example. Say that you're currently moving on a downward slope. This means that every time you move down the slope, you are airborne. Then, usually, gravity would kick in and get you on the ground again. Now imagine that, in that step in-between, you try to jump. The game considers you airborne, so you DON'T get a jump, even though you will probably feel like you should've. To fix that problem, I removed a check to see if you are currently not airborne, in favor of a check to see if, had you been 10 pixels further down, you'd be overlapping with the ground. With this new check, if you'd try to jump just like before, you pass the Coyote time check I described above, and the game now moves you down 10 pixels. This makes you overlap with the ground, so you pass the second check too, giving you your upward momentum as normal. Lastly, the game moves you back up those same 10 pixels, which makes sure you don't see any change in position. Otherwise you'd be flying down and off-screen whenever you jump. These two changes combined should make the jump button feel a lot more responsive, hopefully making for a more fun experience while playing. Thank you for reading all this and have fun!
