As a kit, he never had any friends, because he was teased for his strange appearence and obsession with the sky. Secretly he was working on his escape. As soon as he was old enough to take care of himself, he ran away from home to persue his dreams on an airplane he had been building (which looks something like this old wright brothers plane: http://www.wright-brothers.org/Information_Desk/Just_the_Facts/Airplanes/Wright_Airplane_images/Model%20H/Model_H_over_Huffman.jpg) Ash traveled throughout the world, and met finally Roxie. They became instant friends, and then slowly feel in love. They flew together on the plane for a good while, and eventually settled down together.
