CW: medical stuff Orion was a medical mystery. He had some sort of noise sensitivity, that was fine, that was explainable, but what kind of noise sensitivity could send someone into a coma? After he’d passed out, Ella and Anthony assumed he’d just fallen asleep, but when they hadn’t been able to wake him up, they’d called 911. They’d wondered if they had overreacted, but they’d proved themselves right when, shortly after they got to the hospital, Orion stopped breathing. Ella and Anthony were sitting on a bench in the waiting room, waiting for Orion’s parents to arrive. “And to think, half an hour ago we were having the time of our lives,” Anthony said. Ella snorted. “The time of your life, maybe. That was barely a party.” she sighed. “Do you think he’s going to be okay?” “I mean, he’s Orion. He’ll either be fine and won’t shut up about it for the rest of our lives, or he’ll die, come back as a ghost and pretend he’s fine.” Ella put her head in her hands. “Don’t say that!” “Sorry. I’m sorry.” There was a long silence. “I can’t believe-” Ella began. “I mean, everything was coming together. We were all going to the same college, we were going to move in together, we were going to have the greatest four years of our lives.” “We’re still going to do all of those things,” Anthony said. “Are we?” Ella asked. Anthony couldn’t answer, so they fell into another miserable silence. This one was only broken when Orion’s parents came in, hastily dressed. They had spent the night at a hotel. “Where is he?” Mr. Blackwell asked. Ella told him the room number, and he sped away without another word. “Sorry about him,” Mrs. Blackwell said. “He’s just worried, as I’m sure you two are.” “You don’t need to stay and talk to us,” Ella said. “We’re leaving.” “Thank you,” Mrs. Blackwell said, then she left. “Can you call your parents to pick us up?” Ella asked Anthony. “Mine don’t know I’m out.” “They don’t?” he asked. “Don’t start with me.” “Sorry.” Anthony pulled out his phone and started to dial the number. Suddenly, Ella grabbed his arm. “Do you feel that?” Anthony put the phone down. “No… wait, yeah.” the hospital had started to shake. “Is it an earthquake?” “I’m not sure. Call your parents now, please.” “Yeah. Yeah, on it.” But before he could, Anthony’s phone flew out of his hand. “What the hell?” He looked around. Other small objects had started to fly. Then larger. Then, before he knew it, he and Ella were flying down the hall. “What the hell is going on?” Ella yelled. “Where are we going?” Anthony began to speak, but before he could finish, he and Ella smashed into Orion’s hospital room.
