Don't don't don't let's press the green flag.
If you were to ask me my favorite TMBG song, I would, without a doubt, tell you it's this one. I just love this song so much, and the video that goes with it as well. As it is with a lot of They Might Be Giants' work, the song sound upbeat and happy until you listen to the lyrics, which are kind of nihilistic and depressing. I feel like this song's narrator is questioning why his life is so hard and torturous ("D, world destruction. O-ver and overture. N, do i need-apostrophe-T, need this torture"), and is even pleading for love to fill the void, but realizes it won't work. The narrator does seem to find some comfort in the fact that everyone deals with what he is: frustration and depression ("No one in the world ever gets what they want and is beautiful..."). I also just enjoy the old TMBG music videos where John and John are bouncing around the screen and 2x speed and making goofy faces and gestures towards the camera.
