WARNING: The poem contains some sensitive topics Title: One Chance Title: One Chance I’m ready, I can stand through The fire. So I sat with you And listened I stayed strong And began With an open mind. I let the story flow Through me Pictured me In your situation Like I always do Standing in the middle Of the fire Your voice my only Comfort The ice keeping me From melting into flames I understand, I’ll help you, I can be strong I can withstand the fire But your voice, It changed As the fire grew taller Everything was falling apart. You started to lose control. You started making Your own scarres. Painting them gracefully To distract you From your emotions. I could picture you Lighting the fire In the dark, In hopes of burning the problem Like paper. But you started a fire That didn’t give No, it didn’t give You hope It was a fire That took, greedily. Taking away from The story of your life. Burning each page From right here, right now I wanted to stop you. Even with the Raging flames, Wet tears dropped From my eyes. The heat, still taking over. It melted my limbs, Forcing me on my knees. With what I had left, I punched the ground. Looking for a way To get to you. And then the fire stopped. And so did I. Because I realized I couldn’t change your past, Or rewrite the story You chose for yourself. And you realized Even though She is gone, Playing with fire Was not something She would’ve wanted for you. She would’ve wished For you to keep living And to be alive. Feel Alive Because you only get One chance to live. One chance, To write your story. She wanted you To be happy. You took a step back, And looked up out Of this hole you dug For yourself. And saw the light Of real hope. So you looked for help. I threw you stepping stones, And gave you my strength.
