She loved this mortal with all of her heart and trusted him completly. But things didn't go the way she thought they would. Gardenia found out about how her lover was only dating her so he could gain popularality, power, etc. Gardenia punished him by turning him into dust. She felt gulity only seconds after the incident, she cried and cried over the small pile of dust until, almost magically, a single white blossom appeared, the first gardenia.
