hey there! welcome back to day 7 of me revealing songs from my new album, 'talk of the town' today, im sharing track 7, 'imelda' some of you noticed, when i announced the album, i mentioned in that project that only 9.5 of the 10 songs were original! well this song would be the reason for that, since the chorus was featured in one of my unreleased song mashups! (also that project was where i hid the sticky note that had the lyrics from this song! just a little easter egg i snuck in there ;P) now on a more serious note i want to talk about this song. usually i don't give a ton of detail around the song because i want you guys to be able to make your own interpretations and make connections to your own life instead of being forced to listen to it the way that i intended it. however, this song is particularly special so i wanted to take a moment and talk about it. imelda is a song about a girl who lost her twin sister at a young age. the song explores her emotions as she feels like she lost her other half and wishes she didn't have to be the one to stick around and suffer all the pain she feels from mourning her sister. unfortunately, this has a special place in my own life. last september, i received the news that one of my old teammates lost her life in a car crash. she was only 16. and, she had a twin sister. i was never very close with her, but i had known her since we were little, so the news was very shocking. i saw firsthand how her death affected her friends, her parents, and her twin. there are very few scenarios i can imagine that could be sadder than losing your twin, so i wrote this song for the sister that survived, and in this song, that sister is imelda. it is really important to me to put this song out in the world. even though her family may never hear it, i feel like this is my way of sending love from afar. i really love this song and i hope you love it too, but most of all i hope that her family and friends are doing okay. they are all in my thoughts and prayers every day. i’m sorry this got so deep and sad, but this story feels too important to not be shared. make sure you tell your friends and family that you love them, and i hope all of you are doing well <333 make sure to check back tomorrow to hear the next track from 'talk of the town' :) lyrics + chords: ----- all written, sung, and performed by me <3 capo 2 (g) imelda doesn’t check the mail since the (c) day turned upside down (g) imelda finds it hard to find the (c) will to make it count (em) imelda’s heart’s only half full (d) her only wish was growing old (c) she’d rather be the one to go than (d) one to stick around (g) imelda knows the world moves on but she’ll (c) never forget (g) imelda knew her so well yet there’s (c) still room for regret(s) (em) imelda’s visions get clearer (d) every time she sees a mirror (em) shed rather switch her spot than feel the pain she feels right now (c) she wish shed never had the life that’s (d) hurts so bad right now (g) half of her heart (c) half of her soul (em) what’s fresh in her mind (d) didn’t matter before (g) lit up the room (c) gone far too soon (em) can’t make up for two (d) imelda who knew (c) she knows that nothings perfect (d) but what she had was-as close as (g) it could be (g) imelda doesn’t understand how (c) life is so unfair (g) imelda can’t believe that what she (c) had now isnt there (em) she’s only 21 you know (d) with forever to be on her own (c) yet she’d suffer if it made it easy for her (d) over there (g) half of her heart (c) half of her soul (em) what’s fresh in her mind (d) didn’t matter before (g) lit up the room (c) gone far too soon (em) can’t make up for two (d) imelda who knew (c) she knows that nothings perfect (d) but what she had was-as close as (g) it could be as close as it could (c) be can’t forget a single (em) thing as close as it (c) could be (g) half of her heart (c) half of her soul (em) what’s fresh in her mind (d) didn’t matter before (g) lit up the room (c) gone far too soon (em) can’t make up for two (d) imelda who knew (c) she knows that nothings perfect (d) but what she had was-as close as (g) it could be as close as it could (c) be can’t forget a single (em) thing as close as it (c) could be she knows that (em) nothings perfect (d) but what she had was (g) as close as it could be as close as it (c) could be (g) half of her heart half of her (c) soul as close as it (em) could be (c) she’d rather be the one to go than the (d) one to stick around (g) p.s. i just noticed this song was shared exactly 1 year after it was written <333
