Honestly, I had a great time drawing this. Seven hours of work and 184 layers later, the drawing I started and finished before looking at the moodboard is done. Kind of proud of it. I considered adding another cat but I only had 60 layers left and I didn’t know how much more I would have to do to fix the umbrella. I still have my doubts about the glass border though. And yes, Gǔ has to have an oil-paper umbrella. His design is based on an explanation of the solar eclipse(the ancient Chinese one), his name is Mandarin for “drum,” and oil-paper umbrellas go with that. I have deep respect for other cultures. I try to reflect it in my cats. Doesn’t always go well, but that doesn’t matter. (Matsuri is really weird and drawn badly, for example. And Qiū has barely any connection to the Mid-Autumn festival.)(I still like Qiū. And I’m too jealous to give Matsuri away.) Gǔ is a good design though. Glad I chose him as my shopkeeper.
