Welcome to T.U.A.G! This is a lot of reading, so get your eyes and paws/hooves/claws/talons/hands ready! Warning : I use kintype and theriotype interchangeably, so just know they’re /mostly/ the same! - 1. WHAT IS A ALTERHUMAN? - Alterhumans, ( also sometimes called Otherkin ) are people who identify as partly or fully nonhuman OR someone who doesn’t fit the standard definition of human. - Alterhumans can be anything! It’s common to think they can only be alive animals. But alterhumans can be dinosaurs, divine beings, dragons, demons, objects and even fictional species and creatures like silkwings! ( WOF ) - Alterhumans know they are biologically human, and if they don’t, it may be a sign of a mental disorder, and you should seek help for that person if it seems like a very big problem for them. - 2. CAN YOU BECOME A ALTERHUMAN? - The short answer is no, in most cases. Some specific cases ( Like fun-link or coping link ( which MUST be written like this on scratch ) ) are done for fun or to cope with trauma. ( Though, coping link isn’t always voluntary) These are just as valid as any other identity and should not be excluded. Though, becoming a therian is NOT. - You cannot become a alterhuman in most cases, and you ‘awaken’ / find out you are one. You are usually also born a alterhuman but can become one early in childhood. - 3. COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS - 3A. “Alterhumans ( usually used against therians ) use litter boxes!” - No. Just no. No alterhuman uses litter boxes. These came from fake vids from a bait account pretending to be a therian. - 3B. “Alterhumans bark/meow at people!” - Usually, it’s the antis barking or meowing at people. Irony. Anyways, some therians do vocals to feel more connected to their theriotype. But I haven’t seen any Otherkin do vocals yet, I wonder what sounds they are? :0 - 3C. “I chose —- / I became a —-!” - A common mistake made by newly awere Otherkin/therians is thinking that you can choose your kin type / theriotype. A common mistake made by people in the community is to attack these people. DO NOT DO THAT! They may be very young or new to the community. Not every person who says this is faking. Many Otherkin/ therians don’t even like their kin type / theriotype. - 3D. “All alterhumans are queer/gay/neurodivergent!” - Many alterhumans are LGBTQ+, but not all alterhumans are. Same with the neurodivergent part, not all alterhumans are neurodivergent, but some are. - 3E. “Doing quads makes you a alterhuman!” - NO! You do NOT need to do quads to be a alterhuman or can do quads and become a alterhuman! Quads do not make you a alterhuman, and they are just for fun/connection. Just because the internet never shows the non quads part doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist! - 3F. “Alterhumans always act like animals!” - No, we do not scurry around like a lizard all day. We do not eat kibble, but some will eat a more herbivore/ carnivore like diet to connect with their kin type! We eat out normal bowls and eat with forks. - 3G., “You need to have shifts / a past life to be a alterhuman!” - No! You do not need to have shifts to be a alterhuman! You also don’t need a past life. As a otherhearted person, I can say I haven’t had any signs I had a past life. And that’s valid! You also don’t need to have species dysphoria. - 4. ALTERHUMAN HELP. - 4A. How do I figure out my kin type / theriotype? - Research, LOTS OF IT. If you don’t like researching, you are gonna HATE figuring this out. Connect what you feel during shifts ( if you have them. ), think about what your mindset is like, research animals, creatures, etc. It feels so much better to know what your kin type is! - 4B. Should I come out? - If you know your family is strongly not supportive, or it can put your life in jeopardy, dont come out. You don’t need to come out as a alterhuman! I have a ‘common’ kin/therio type, am I vaild? - YES! Just because you’re a cat, dog, fox, or wolf doesn’t mean you’re any less vaild! Never bash people for having a ‘common’ kin type, some kin types are often more common then others, and having a rarer one ( like snake ) doesn’t make you better. - - And that’s the end of T.U.A.G!
