My parents didn’t really care. Bug parents don’t really. There were so many of us, I can’t blame them. “The only thing they cared about was how dangerous I was when I grew up into a puppy. I could have crushed them. “I can’t blame them. “Ceiba found me and took me somewhere I could change without hurting anyone, so I could be ok where I was. “I don’t miss my parents. They don’t miss me. Bugs are like that. "... “I’m glad I can be big and not feel weird. “But now being small is weird.” Birdie is staring at Junebuggy. He looks tired. “Topaz, and Tiamat. They’re nice. And Sunspot. She’s a little scary but she takes care of us.” Birdie pauses, tugging at his sweater. “But they don’t know what it’s like to be small. “Even after all the talks, and the lessons and the friend stuff. They explain all about being different to me. But I feel like I should be explaining it to them. Cause they don’t know. They were always the right size.” Birdie holds Junebuggy up in front of him. “And you don’t know either, do you? “Topaz made you. So you don’t. Do you? No one ever called you weird.” Birdie looks at Junebuggy with an incredulous expression. “You’re stuffed.” Now Birdie looks slightly annoyed. “You’re not even my friend, are you?” He pauses for a second. They look at each other deeply. Birdie then hurls Junebuggy across the room in frustration. She hits the wall softly. Birdie contemplates this.
