Episode 0: The lonely gamer. Malcolm quickly commanded his workers to go mine the minerals. Alright, we’re going against a Zurk player, so we’ll play cautiously. He stared at his basic humans. Sure, they weren’t anything fancy, but they got the job done. Build more workers, build supply and barracks. A basic build order, but one to be respected. His worker which he’d sent to scout hadn’t caught any cheeses, but it did show that his opponent was going for a one-base all-in. Risky tactic. It’s not likely they’re actually going to do it. As soon as he hit enough minerals, he began building another CC. His little worker scout died at the hands of some zurklings. He’s probably gonna do a run-by to harass me. Malcolm thought as he began training some marines, his basic unit. I’ll build a bunker between my two bases, and fill it up. Malcolm planned before an annoying voice popped into his headset saying, “Not enough minerals.” “Great,” Malcolm muttered as his first marine popped out of the barracks. A little too late, the zurklings had already appeared. They hadn’t gotten their speed upgrade yet, allowing his little marine to run away, and turn back, firing at them. When he emptied his magazine, Malcolm would pull him away, and then after he finished reloading, Malcolm continued fending off the assault, his marine drawing the small swarm of little bugs away from his base. Finally! Malcolm thought as another marine had finally been trained. He instantly threw him into the fray, attacking the little monsters on two sides. He commanded both of them to focus on the same zurkling, bringing it’s HP into the red until finally- *SPLAT*, the thing exploded into a pile of goo. There were still three left, but Malcolm took care of them easily. The rest of the game went on as expected, Malcolm’s opponent playing very aggressively, as Malcolm spent his time split between fending off his opponent’s fearsome attacks and building up his base. Eventually, his opponent overextended, and Malcolm punished it heavily. His army fired on the swarm of monsters of various sizes and shapes, as his opponent panicked and sent his army straight into the line of fire. Explosions of goo were seen on both sides as the two armies clashed with each other. Fair trade. Malcolm shook his head disapprovingly. Of course, this was part of his plan. As the two armies destroyed each other, they came to a stalemate, or so it seemed. Malcolm grinned, as he teleported his two battlecruisers to the enemy's side of the map. They immediately started wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting worker line. His enemy was probably in shock, wondering how the heck Malcolm had been able to create those battlecruisers, the most expensive units to train. Elementary. Malcolm thought, smirking. I simply played really greedy. And while you were busy being aggressive, I built up to this, fully intending to destroy both of our armies, and then sweep in, dealing the final blow. Malcolm explained to nobody in his head. He smirked as a Victory, flashed across his screen. Well. That was easy. He glanced at his clock. It was still only 5, he could pump out another game before going to school, but… For some reason, I feel really lonely. Malcolm thought, putting his hand over his chest. Can’t really play Craft of Stars with friends, and I’ve got no interest in the first-person shooters everyone’s playing, so I guess I can’t complain. But, I really do wish I could play a game with friends. Gah. Whatever. A 5th grader shouldn’t be thinking about such things. He said, shaking his head vigorously, as he got ready for the day. Little did he know, his complaints of loneliness were going to end, permanently.

This was based on it, heavily, though it's more of a how Tolkien inspired Robert Jordan type of situation. Nonetheless, similarities should be expected from the start. I highly recommend you read Classmancers before reading Militia, and I love it https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/17266/classmancers-a-moba-esport-story
