1. Name a fictional character who you relate to: Orpheus, specifically his incarnation in Hadestown. I think we can all see ourselves a little in Orpheus, but I relate to him so strongly because he loves so much but he accidentally pushes people away because he needs to sing. In a similar way, Gordon Schwinn from A New Brain. "I long to love, but need to write. I get distracted so damn easily." Lots of brilliance in the world of songwriter characters in musical theatre. 2. Name a fictional character who you wish you looked like: Not counting anybody who is a real person (because I could say any character Kristin Chenoweth has played), I think I'd love to look like... Hm... I'm tempted to just say one of the many well endowed anime girls that I used to love so much in middle school. I'll go with my heart and say Hatsune Miku. As a gay man, I often just wish that *more* men were attracted to me. That'd be really easy if I looked like Hatsune freaking Miku. 3. Name a fictional character who is from your childhood: Mario. Pokemon was massive in my childhood, but I think Mario was potentially even bigger. At the very least, I still find Mario games to be every bit as brilliant and fun and powerful and poignant as ever. I think I always saw Mario as the pinnacle of video games as a kid, and because of that he is profoundly special and important to me. I still think that Mario is the pinnacle of video games, by the way. Fight me on this, you can't. Mario games are just the best video games. Nobody can touch the Mario developers. They live on another planet. 4. Name a fictional character who is from your favorite TV show/anime: I will say, most anime are TV shows. I know, this question was written three years ago and isn't open to critiques, but it is important to say. Alright. Olive Snook from Pushing Daisies. God I wish it were more than two seasons. It was a beautiful, incredible show that just had so much going for it. Such a bizarre and interesting premise, style, cast of characters... And, of course, Kristin Chenoweth won her Emmy Award for playing Olive Snook. You do not understand the depths of my love for her. Probably almost equaling how I feel about Harvey Fierstein or John Cameron Mitchell. Pushing Daisies is amazing, though, you should all go watch it. 5. Name a fictional character who is from your favorite video game: Dang I already talked about Mario earlier. And I can't say Luigi because my favorite game of all time happens to be Super Mario 64. A big part of the appeal of that game, to me at least, is the somewhat eerie feeling of isolation. There are other characters, though. Lakitu is another who is always there. I love Lakitu's presence in Super Mario 64. Not far behind Mario is a great little obscure indie horror game called Yume Nikki. So let's throw in Poniko and Madotsuki, give the little guys some love. But Mario is always the king, we all know. 6. Name a fictional character who is from your favorite movie: Oh movie. Alright. Forrest Gump. Yes this is my favorite movie of all time. I could also say Dorothy, the bus driver from two scenes of the movie. Very important character. Forrest Gump is amazing in that it tackles so many social issues from a naive perspective but shows us all how ignorance can simultaneously make us unaware of problems we and others have and make us better equipped to solve them by being the best we can. The most amazing thing about the movie, and Forrest as a character, is how this man is so oblivious to everything but remains an incredibly good person. He is kind and considerate to everybody around him, and when he doesn't know how to help he doesn't try to reason it out. He is simple in his understanding, but he truly understands the world more than any of us. That incredible line-- "Why don't you love me Jenny? I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is..." And then "I'm a good man, Jenny." God what a gorgeous film. 7. Name a fictional character who you would unironically marry: Arnold from Torch Song Trilogy. And not just because he's Harvey Fierstein. ... Okay, yes just because he's Harvey Fierstein. 8. Name a fictional character who you s1mp for without shame: Marvin from Falsettos 9. Name a fictional character who you s1mp for with shame: Basil from Omori 10. Name a fictional character who you like from a fandom you recently entered: Recent is a relative term. I haven't really entered any fandoms recently. I guess I just recently got into the musical Bonnie and Clyde but that's about real people. Oh, but here's my trump card, there are some made up characters. For example, the Preacher. I do not think he is based on any real preacher.
11. Name a fictional character who you would cosplay: Well I already talked about Hatsune Miku. Let's go with Glinda from Wicked. I know she is from The Wizard of Oz but specifically the Wicked one. 12. Name a fictional character who you think is under appreciated: Dickon in The Secret Garden. John Cameron Mitchell not getting a Tony nomination for it is insane. He's frequently misunderstood as being youthful through and through, with these young, light voices cast to play him. That is not him. Listen. He looks young, and he physically is. But he should sound mature and distinct, almost like a mystical old wizard man. He is a forest wizard. Everything he does is tinged in magic and mystique. I absolutely hate that Ben Platt played him, there wasn't a hint of John Cameron Mitchell's intrigue and sensuality in him. 13. Name a fictional character who makes you laugh/smile: Kristin character number three. Every single thing she does as Eve in The Apple Tree makes me smile so much Oh my God I love her I might die. "Whatever I am, I sure am a beautiful one!" God, and she's so right, she's so gorgeous. 14. Name a fictional character who you want to protect at all costs: Crutchie from Newsies. No elaboration needed. 15. Name a fictional character who you created a piece of media of/for: I technically have created many pieces of media but I have never considered them to be "for" a character or hardly even to be media. Let's go with Anatoly from Chess because of my several recordings and videos of me singing Anthem. 16. Name a fictional character who you would fight: I do not like fighting. However, I do enjoy play fighting with my goats. So let's choose a goat! Actually, no. The sheep from Super Mario Odyssey. 17. Name a fictional character who you find comforting (comfort character) ... Kristin Chenoweth???? Okay let's see what's a character she does... Oh, I know. Sally from Charlie Brown! 18. Name a fictional character who you'd go get drinks with: Edna from Hairspray. That'd just be funny. 19. Name a fictional character who you'd be roommates with: I already used Glinda, dang it. Oh I know! Bernadetta from Fire Emblem Three Houses. I could have also used her for the character I want to protect at all costs. 20. Name a fictional character who is your all-time favorite: This is easy. Hedwig from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Not sure if I can describe this musical on here but know that this character is really something else.
