————— Isabel’s Point of View: Jenna comes running up to me at my locker. It’s the first day of high school, and the first 15 minutes have gone well. “Izzy, have you heard?” She asks excitedly. “Nah. What happened?” I ask, shutting my locker door. “Cassidy moved away! And David… well, he disappeared.” She says, wincing. “What? What do you mean he disappeared?” I ask. Even if I hate him, I still wanna know what happened. Thank the lord about Cassidy! “No one knows. He just disappeared one day during summer.” She says, shrugging. “I mean, not to be rude, but… hallelujah!” I exclaim. She giggles. “Why do you guys hate each other anyway? You, David and Cassidy?” She asks. I shrug. “I don’t know. I guess we just rub each other wrong. It started in kindergarten.” I say. “Oh, well. Anyway.” She looks around. “See any cute guys?” She asks. I giggle and lean in. We start whispering just as the bell rings. —————Cassidy’s Point of View: I turn over and turn my alarm off. I groan, stretching my legs out. I look up at the ceiling, then at all the boxes sitting all around my room. Ugh. I forgot. I’m not at home. I’m at this house that I don’t belong in with Dad and his wife. And Leah. I get out of bed and walk to the bathroom, grabbing my hairbrush. I brush my hair, then my teeth, then walk downstairs. Dad and Lena are sitting at the table, drinking coffee. I sit down, laying my head down on the table. “Morning, kiddo. How’d you sleep?” Dad asks. I shrug, not lifting my head. “Want anything to eat?” Lena asks breezily. I guess she’s nice enough. I shake my head, forcing myself to lift my head and smile a tiny bit. Leah bursts through the door. “Mom, where’s my math homework?” She asks, grabbing an apple from the fridge and biting into it. I roll my eyes. My 17 year old step sister. “I’d assume it’s at your desk…” Lena says, sighing. I hold in a snort. Even she’s tired of Leah. Leah glances at me, narrows her eyes, then walks out of the room. A few minutes later I hear the front door close. “She’s a handful.” I mutter, standing up. Dad looks at me with a warning glare. I throw my hands up, raising my eyebrows. I get back up to my room. My best friend Savannah from back home had called. I call her back, and she answers on the first ring. “Have you heard?” She exclaims. “No. Heard what?” I ask, sitting down on my bed. “David, like, completely disappeared!” She says. “Oh my gosh. That’s awful. Sure, I’m not too fond of him, but oof.” I say, laying down. “I know, right?” She agrees. There’s a pause. “Well, I gotta go get ready for the first day of school. We miss you here.” She says. “Yeah. I miss you too. Bye.” I say. She hangs up. —————David, meanwhile, has disappeared. Whether it’s murder or a kidnapping, no one knows…
