Hi guys! So uh I don’t think I ever made a project like this before, so here goes nothing haha! Today I will just give a few tips if you want to start writing poetry, and how I started writing :) …………….. How I started writing So this goes wayyyyy back, in fourth grade when covid hit. I had a lot of things going on in my brain, and I just got a school iPad. I had written a novel in third grade, but I stopped mid way because it hurt to write too much and stuff ( dysgraphia stuff haha) Poetry was my only resort, and I started writing all my thoughts and feelings, as if I was telling these things to someone else. Overtime I guess you could say I started getting ok at it, and I wrote three historical fiction novels in fifth grade for fun, and 2 poetry books that same year for fun. ( lol they’re all deleted) my parents realized I had a gift and encouraged me to keep writing. I started scratch in sixth grade, hoping to share my writing with other people so I could get better at it. Now I’m going into ninth :) so far I’ve written over 500 poems :0 ………………………. Tips! So if you are a beginner writer and don’t know where to start, here are some tips! 1. Don’t overthink. Over thinking really trips me up. Just go whatever sounds good. When writing poetry, I never have a plan for anything. I just start writing random things on my computer and hope they sound good. Right now I’m going through writers block, so rhyming really helps your poem sound more constructed. 2. Try to create a plot for a short story before you start. My first short story on scratch was over 5,000 words, and I didn’t even have a plot set out haha! 3. It doesn’t matter the length of the poem. Some short poems can create the exact same effect as a 4 stanza poem. 4. If you are stuck, try writing a song instead! 5. Practice, practice, practice. All my poems from fifth grade were pretty cheesy, but that’s ok! I just kept writing. 6. Read! Usually once I read I get better ideas when I write. 7. All poetry is poetry, and no poem is bad, because it all comes from the heart :)
