ꕀ focused on clothing trends, this is essentially just a ramble (TL;DR at the bottom) "if skinny jeans come back i'm going to be so sad, they make me so uncomfortable and i don't want to wear them" "why are so many people wearing these baggy pants, you look ridiculous" "i like sambas but i just feel like too many people are wearing them now" "top ten trends to look out for so that everyone will LOVE your outfit" "not her saying that with ribbon bows in her hair, no one's been doing that since the winter, all she needs is a stanley and she'll have the complete look... basic" "here's all you need to know to stay ahead of the trends and buy everything you need now before it gets sold out" When I found these quotes online recently, I really had to think about what I was reading. The passion behind these words told me that these people really cared about trends. It reminded me of how I used to really care about trends just last year. I was going shopping all the time to buy items for my closet that I really didn't need, and honestly I really didn't love, just because it was trending. The mindset that you just really have to wear and consume the new big thing is harmful, and since I've recognized that in myself I've tried to form a new belief, something along the lines of "As long as I like it, that's okay." I don't like Stanley Cups, so I don't drink out of them. I don't like skinny jeans, so I don't wear them. I do like mid length jean skirts, so I choose to wear those. I do like New Balances, so I choose to wear those. Wearing something because someone else likes it isn't being true to yourself, it's shallow. Finding your way out of this mindset is tricky, it seems almost everything and everybody is trying to make you follow trends. Often I can observe brands trying to entice especially younger viewers (under the age of 30) that they just need their product. They create ads with people living their best life, seeming because they have this product. At some point, you start to realize that you can't always trust these ads. This is when companies start using influencers to promote their product because they're just like you and me right? Except for the fact that people idolize them so that they will want to be like them and because of that they will consume whatever the influencer pushes out to them. If you just happen to like it too, that's cool, but you don't have to. You don't have to start disliking something the second it's out of style. I hated the Dior Saddle bag when it was popular, I couldn't understand why people liked it. Now that everyone hates it, I really couldn't find them cuter. When people were talking about the big red boots and how terrible they were I loved them, I still do. I wouldn't wear them, but they're art. I think a lot of fashion is art, just about everything on the runway is anyway, but that's a different topic. Anyways, I just came on here to ramble, I don't think I'm even going to edit this, these are just some of the thoughts I've had about trends the past few months. If I come up with more I'll make a part two <3 TL;DR: do whatever you want, people shouldn't care, and if they do that's their problem, not yours. no one can force you to wear or buy anything you don't want to. focus on getting a life, your own individual life, instead. (and i mean that in the nicest way possible, trust me)
