This is my first-time using Alice and I used no tutorials. The surrealness of the animation is to hide that I do not know how to animate in 3D yet. I have to say that this is NOT the same as Scratch. Blocks can only be placed linearly, and you cannot execute multiple blocks of code at once without an "at once" block. Overall, even though it has the third dimension, and its latest VR update was made this year. The software feels dramatically older than Scratch.
