True Tales - CHAPTER 1 BOOM! A gunshot fires past us. Me and Jax scurry into an open log. Mother had warned us about this. A lot. I don’t breathe. I don’t dare. Jax doesn’t either. We kept quiet until the sound of the dogs barking faded into the distance, and the sound of the horse’s hooves had trotted too far to be heard. Jax and I slowly walk out of the log, trying not to make a sound. It was over. Quickly we scurried back home. Where it was safe. “FOX CHASE!? You were in the middle of a fox chase?!” Mother bellowed. I was scared, why had Jax told Mother? We both knew that she would react like this. We also knew how Father would react. Even worse. Once the scowling was over, I tried to talk to Jax. Tried to find out why he told Mother. Of course Jax didn’t answer, so I stayed quiet. I didn’t sleep that night. I’m pretty sure Jax didn’t either. My tail brushed against the weedy grass on the floor where I slept as I sat up. What would have happened if we didn’t hide earlier? Mother never told us that..
