Chapter 1 Dark Years Malina Riddle was sleeping peacefully in her bed. It had been a very fun and happy day for her family, and the five year old was excited for what the next day would bring. She and her family had had the happiest memories over the years, through the activities, vacations, and family time. She had her mom Brianna Riddle, her dad Tom Riddle, her twin brother Tommy, and her ten year old brother Drake. Malina rolled over in her sleep, and she opened her eyes just the tiniest bit when she heard a small thud. Curious, she sleepily sat up and looked around her bedroom. No one was there though except for Tommy, who was sleeping in his own bed across from her’s. Malina heard another thud, this time closer to her. She was a very curious child, and if she didn’t know something it would drive her crazy. She quietly slid out of bed and tiptoed to the door. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she faintly made out the outline of someone in a dark cloak walking down the hallway. Malina’s heart pounded in her chest and she froze. An intruder was in her house! Malina didn’t know what to do, so she quickly grabbed something she could use for self defense. She tiptoed to the kitchen and pressed a secret panel on the wall. A small compartment opened up, and Malina took out her father’s spare wand. She had watched her dad perform many spells before, and although Malina knew she was underage, she knew she had to do something to protect her home. She quickly ran back to the hallway just in time to see the figure close the door to her parents room. Horrified, Malina ran in after him and shot the first spell that she could remember at him. “ Stupefy!” She shouted, which made both of her parents immediately wake up. The figure spun around and growled. He pulled his own wand out and pointed it at her. “ You’re underage, little one!” He said in a deep mean voice. Malina’s hand shook, but she kept pointing it at him, as her parents stared at them in shock. Within seconds Tom had his wand out. “ Malina, go to your room!” He ordered and Malina ran out of the room. It seemed like hours as the girl waited, trying not to cry as she heard loud shouts and blasts of magic. Soon, she had fallen asleep. Five hours later, Malina woke up to the sound of crying. Her blood ran cold, and she slowly made her way to her parent’s room. Her dad was there, but her mom wasn’t. Malina felt tears coming to her eyes. She sat down next to Tom, her eyes full of worry. “ D-dad is mom-” She couldn’t say anything else. Tom didn’t answer and kept on crying. Malina was soon crying too. After a long two hours of sobbing, Malina knew that even though this was the saddest and most unexpected thing that had ever happened to her family, she had to keep going with her life. Her mother wouldn’t have wanted her to sit here crying for the rest of her life. She took a deep breath and stood back up. “ Dad, we have to keep going.” She told him, and he nodded in understanding. Slowly they stood up to go see Drake and Tommy. And that was one of the first unhappy events that took place in Malina’s life. Four months later the Riddle’s were completely poor, and in great debt on their taxes. Tom Marvolo Riddle bravely led his family through the cold and snowy streets of London, they were surrounded by many houses but he was looking for only one. Finally he stopped at a tall glamorous town house, and through the windows he could see many crystal chandeliers, and expensive paintings. He knocked on the door nervously. The door was opened by an old servant lady. “ What do you want?” She asked grouchily. Tom took a deep breath. “ I would like to have a talk with the couple who live here. We’re family.” He asked. The servant growled but she went to get them. After fifteen minutes, a man dressed in a fancy suit, and a lady dressed in an elegant gown. Tom smiled slightly. “ Good morning Mr and Mrs Welis.” He said politely. William Welis and Belladonna Welis made a face of disgust. “ How dare you set foot on our doorstep! You are not welcome here!” William shouted. Tom continued though. “ My family and I need help. We’re starving every night, we don’t have much money, and if we don’t pay taxes soon then we won’t be able to keep our home. Please, I know that you are rich with money, couldn’t you just give us some to last for a while and pay the tax with?” He desperately asked. Belladonna snorted. “ And what makes you think that we care? After what you did to our dear Brianna?” Tom froze and anger rushed to his eyes. “OH you think I was behind what happened? Of course not! I loved Brianna with all my heart, if only you knew.” He yelled. William frowned. “Well, sorry but we are not interested in helping you. So go and beg somewhere else.” He said and slammed the door in their faces.
“My brother was right. Muggles are not good people. Muggles are very bad. And muggles don’t have the right to be here, only wizards do. Powerful wizards, not weak wizards. Powerful purebloods. And I’m going to help my brother make some changes, starting right now.” Then Tom told his family to go home and wait for him. But six weeks later he had not yet returned. Tom was gone, and he was now someone else. Thanks to his evil brother Basilock’s convincing, and a horrible curse, Tom had been turned into Lord Voldemort. And, well you know the story of Lord Voldemort. He also changed Tommy’s name, since he was named after his dad, to Voldemort. Malina was very sad to learn what their dad had turned into, and even more sad to find out that he died. After that, the three siblings lived alone together in their large empty house, with no money at all now. One night, Malina was lying awake in her bed, thinking about what they should do. She was too sad to go to sleep. She was just thinking about how they would manage to find help when all of a sudden bright orange flame surrounded her. She screamed and was completely frozen in fear. But the weird thing was, after a minute she wanted to move, but she couldn’t. It was as if she was actually frozen. The flames were surrounding her and about to touch her when a blast of water put them out. Drake helped Malina run out of the house dodging the flames as they went. Before they ran outside, Malina grabbed her green crystal locket, a scrap book of everything her family had done together and then they ran out of the house. After two seconds of relief Malina started panicking again. “Where’s To-I mean Voldemort?!?” She shouted. Drake looked like he was about to go back in to find him, when suddenly the flames inside the house flared up and got much bigger. With tears in their eyes, the siblings had to run out of their tiny town as fast as they could. Drake looked at Malina with fear in his eyes. “That fire was no accident. Someone made it, and someone wants us gone. And whoever it was might have gotten Voldemort. Or maybe he escaped, hopefully.” He whispered to her. Malina nodded. “So that’s why we're leaving the town. But where will we go, what will we do?” We can go to Grandma Bella and Grandpa Will’s house! They hate us, and daddy told us not to trust or like muggles.” Drake sighed. “Well, the only other place we could go would be our uncle and aunt. The problem is though, we don’t know them, and I don’t know where they live.” He replied. As they walked through the streets of London Malina thought of a question to ask him. “ Draky, why didn’t you ever go to Hogwarts? You're fourteen!” She asked. Drake sighed sadly. “I turned eleven the year mom died, and I knew that I couldn’t possibly go to Hogwarts after that. I had to stay and help and do lots of chores. There was no time for me to get any wizard education. So, I probably will have to be a muggle, I guess. Dad would be so disappointed in me.” Malina hugged her brother tightly. They were now walking through a dark forest that had a very spooky green glow in it. “Um-were lost, aren’t we?” Malina said. Drake just nodded. They passed some tall piles of rocks, when all of a sudden Malina had a very strange sensation. Something was pulling her to the rocks, and she walked over to them. “Drake, they live here.” She called him, though she was surprised she had said that. Drake looked at her like she was crazy but walked over. “Um-Malina? There’s a green glow around you….and your eyes are glowing too.” He spoke. Malina didn’t hear him though. She walked over to the tallest rock, and without thinking or doing it herself, started speaking parseltongue. The rocks opened up to reveal a tunnel, and Malina raced down it, as soon as she got to the heavy iron door at the bottom the glow faded from her, and Drake quickly joined her. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door, his knock echoing around the cave. There was a loud creak and thud, and the door was opened by a woman. She had very pale skin, dark brown hair, bright red lips, long fingernails that were painted red as well, and a black long dress with red dragon scales on it. She was the scariest woman Malina had ever seen, but something told her to stay. “Um-hello! My name is Malina Riddle, and that’s my brother Drake Riddle. I think we might be family. We're looking for our aunt and uncle, because we're um- orphans.” She said quietly. The woman’s eyes widened, and she startled them both with a loud yell to another person in the room behind the door. “BASILOCK! THERE’S TWO CHILDREN AT THE DOOR! A FIVE-YEAR-OLD AND A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD! THEY SAY THAT THEIR TOM AND BRIANNA’S KIDS!” She shouted. Chapter 2 is now out!!! Be sure to check it out! :)
