Storytime! Once, one of my friends, (lets call her N), asked me what my gender identity was. I told her it was transmasc. 'So you're a man?' she asked. I said no. She said, 'so you're nonbinary?'. I said no. N was extremely confused and I didn't really understand why. Here's the thing about my gender. I identify as transmasc. I prefer terms like dude, boy, and guy. My pronouns are he/it. But I'm not a man. Trans people who are AFAB (assigned female at birth) and transition to a man are trans binary. People who are AFAB and transition to a masculine gender, or masculine presenting person but not a man are trans nonbinary. Meaning they transition, but outside of the gender binary. It doesn't make them nonbinary, but they could be. Both are transmasc. I am transitioning outside of the gender binary. Transmasc is just the term that fits me best.
