Uh-oh, seems like my YAB applications has crashed (not actually, this is to fit with its theme). Welp, luckily, I've got a back-up: Random sprites, and an unidentifiable theme. The best kind of application! How to use: Click green flag Wait for the intro to play out (sorry for it being so long... I would've added a skip intro button if I had the time, since this was a last minute application) Click the items to get the answers to the questions (they are slightly randomised, each piece of info having two costumes it can randomise between every time the flag is clicked) Read the answers Click the info to get rid of it Do steps 3-5 again until you've read them all, or until you're content "But Mango! Isn't this just Untitled-24 all over again?" Yes, but actually no. Now be quiet. Credits: - Me for the coding and most of the art/photos - Moonsprout Games for the Tanjerin sprite, as well as the Leif part of the design for the Leifango sprite - Nintendo, Intelligent Systems, and Hal Laboratories for the original versions of the Kirbo, Kirbolly, Ma(n)golor, and Yoshi sprite - Scratch Team for this really interesting opportunity - You for looking at this - @StardreamT2 and @Rosereef for motivating me to finish this last minute :D (If I find the time to get music.... Moonsprout Games (specifically Tristan Alric) for the song, "Lab Over Snakemouth", since I just realized that song would fit this theme so well.... AAAAA)
Text Version of Answers: About Me: Hi there! I am known as Mango (or, for those who aren’t familiar with my online nickname, I’m usually called Kitti, Kat, or Kitti Kat, because of my username), I’ve been active in the Scratch community for a bit over 3 years, and I go by they/them pronouns. On Scratch, I’m the fellow community helper who tends to obsess over video games, mainly the Paper Mario series, the Mario & Luigi series, Kirby, or Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. You can usually find me just hanging out on Scratch, or in a Scratch Team-owned studio. Sometimes I’m making a project, though they usually tend to be scrapped for a variety of reasons. Outside of Scratch, you can usually find me writing, drawing, playing video games, cuddling with my cats, or contemplating life. What Scratch Means to Me: To me, Scratch is a sense of community, and a place where I can express myself. There are so many different people with diverse backgrounds, as Scratch likes to encourage. It’s so cool to learn about all of these different backgrounds, and feel part of something bigger than the relatively secluded and undiverse area I live in. It’s taught me to be more tolerable of people, and in some cases, this community has helped me figure myself out and embrace who I am. For the most part, this community’s very friendly and willing to accept me for who I am, and I don’t think I could’ve asked for better people to hang out with! My Favourite Scratch Experience: In general, my favourite moments on Scratch are the ones where I hang out with the fellow people of the community, whether they’re complete strangers, or longtime online friends. However, I do think my favourite experience on Scratch is being an SDS curator. Though I haven’t been quite as helpful as I’ve wanted to be around the SDS as of late, I do have a lot of fun preparing future SDSs with the rest of the team! Everyone on the team is really nice, as well as the SDS helpers I’m ever so grateful for. It’s almost like its own separate community, being a community helper, and it’s so nice to see that so many people are brought together by their love of helping! Why I Want to Participate: Well, there’s a couple of reasons. First of all, I feel I’m mature enough, and have the right skill set for this position. Being what is basically second to the Scratch Team likely takes a lot of maturity, and a balance between what you desire, what the Scratch Team desires, and what the community desires. Being a community helper has definitely made me more mature, and has given me some insight of what the community and the Scratch Team want and need in Scratch. Second, since Scratch has made me grow as a person more than I could ever imagine, I really want to be able to give my own insight to the website and give back what has been given to me throughout this 3 year journey. A Concept For Scratch: Originally, I was going to give a small suggestion, likely “Give the option to type in the numbers for the colour picker”, or “Make a block that stops a specific sound” (Though I just realised that the second one has a work-around), however, recently, I thought of a more intriguing concept. What if there was a “sample projects” row on the front page, or studio that has a connection with the Scratch Welcoming Committee? Basically, this would be a collection of projects (made by the Scratch Team, or perhaps scratchers) that are very remix friendly so people have something to work off of. I know there’s the “What The Community is Remixing” row, though that’s usually filled to the brim with really popular projects that aren’t incredibly remix-friendly. This row, or studio, would be specifically for projects that are made specifically to be remixed by others to continue. Maybe projects with a few sprite or code assets, a story or animation to be continued, etc. Why do I say that maybe it could be associated with the Welcoming Committee? Well, I think that the best way for new scratchers to learn is to poke and prod around with other people’s code, and use those general ideas to help them with their own projects. What better way to do that than to remix projects that have that idea in mind?
