Heyy here is a little sneak peek of my book! I'm still working on the first draft so it's not great yet lol. The book is called Navelore (naa-vih-lore) and it's about these 4 friends escaping an unjust country, there's lots of magical creatures and other stuff :) 1|30|26 Update: now that I've worked on my book a little more, this is no longer chapter 1 lol. If you'd like to see an updated version visit here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1273181597/ I would love to hear any feedback you may have, just please keep in mind that this is a work on progress and there's some weirdness still getting figured out lol. Also for some reason Scratch doesn't like italics so if it feels like they should be there they probably are in my Google doc lol. Thanks! <3 (if you see an * it means that I'm going to change the wording.) Navelore: Prologue In an ocean of infinite emptiness, a light burned bright and fierce. It hurtled through the ever-still void of darkness, demolishing anything in its path. The ball of pure fire shot towards a blue marble growing bigger by the moment. And although no one on the little insignificant orb knew, one thing was for certain: A star had been born. - Chapter 1 By the time the shuriken was thrown, it was already too late. This is it. This is the end. Casperae Morwyn had never really been a fighter. Especially not now. Not in Navelore. Even when he'd lived in *forest east Nav, Cass was never the one in charge; it had been the elk. And before that… No. The shuriken continued to whiz toward him. He tried to run, but it was like his feet were glued to the ground. In front of him, the guards advanced. He squeezed his eyes shut–the weapon flying closer was sure to hit him. But at the very last second, Cass was pelted/jostled/thrown/knocked to the ground by a cloaked/hooded figure on his left. He hit the dirty cement hard, but didn't give in to the darkness starting to clog his vision. As the figure pulled him behind a barred iron gate, Cass heard the footsteps and exclamations made by the guards pass down the road he'd just been standing on. But as he squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself to be arrested by whoever had just knocked him over…nothing happened. He opened one eye, expecting to see one of the emperor's guards, but instead he found a girl staring at him, standing with one knee beveled and arms crossed, leaning against the iron gate. She looked to be about Cass's age, with shiny dark hair and bangs at the sides of her face. The piercing gaze of her indigo eyes seemed to go right through Cass, as if analyzing his next move. He stared back at her. Why had she just helped him? Eventually, she broke the silence. "What were you thinking?" Cass blinked. "Um…what?" She put a hand on her hip. "You don't just stand in the middle of the Emperor's march with tons of people around and expect to get away with it," she said irritably. Cass pulled himself to an upright position on the dirty pavement. "I wasn't trying to be in the middle of it–I didn't see them coming, and then I was already on the road, and…" The girl waited expectantly. "I got scared," he mumbled. "I froze, but they had already seen me…" The girl looked flabbergasted. "And how long have you lived here?" she asked, raising an eyebrow when Cass didn't answer. The truth was, he'd been hiding in the streets of Navelore since he was seven years old, but that didn't mean he was necessarily good at it. Whenever he got scared by guards nearing him, he would freeze. Just like how he used to when his father was angry back at Ravenshore. He would brace for impact. It was something he'd tried so hard to stop doing, but when the time came, he could never move, just like what had happened just then. He realized the girl was still waiting for an answer, so he mumbled, "Six years." She looked appalled. "Six years? What's your name?" Cass wasn't sure how those questions went together, but he answered, "Cass Morwyn." "Well, then, Cassie, you're lucky you found me. My name's Arrow. And you'll want me to stick around."
