Daily 4: Pick an instrumental song and write 300 words of a story inspired by the mood of the piece for 200 points, +100 for sharing. Song chosen: Dvorak’s New World Symphony, 2nd movement. The famous part (what mainly inspired this) begins about 45 seconds in, but I recommend listening to the whole thing because it’s all beautiful. -------------------------- Stormclouds swirl over the earth, blanketing the land in shadow and rain. Somewhere, dry desert sands thirstily soak up the water. Somewhere, ocean waves crash and foam, thrown into motion. Somewhere, forest leaves bend under the shower’s weight, branches laden with water droplets arcing towards the ground. Headlights twinkle in the growing puddles of city sidewalks, and umbrellas blossom open in the streets like colorful jellyfish awakened by the water. When the ground has had its fill of water and the rivers have swelled to their banks, when the clouds deplete themselves of tears and the wind dissolves them into air, the downpour subsides. Dawn breaks in the misty morning sky, a cascade of rose-and-dandelion light over a world twinkling with water. Maybe wisps of clouds still hover over the world, or massive puffs of cotton still stretch between the horizons, patches of color shining through tears in the atmosphere’s wooly coat. Or maybe the winds have cleared away every trace, leaving the sky a fresh blank slate for the next storm to paint. After the rain, the land awakens, yawning and slow to get up. Somewhere, a barren desert has found its life, with cacti blooming and young plants springing up with the blessing of water. Somewhere, a parched forest lets out a breath of relief, newly revived. Somewhere, a thousand Dutch tulips blanket the countryside, Japanese cherry blossoms graciously welcome the arrival of spring, and rainforests rejoice the renewal of the lifeblood rivers circulating through their sprawling depths. After the rain, the world wakes up to the blessing of another day.
