Hello, I haven’t posted a project in forever, but of course I will post a project about my newest hyperfixation/obsession. Twenty One Pilots :3 I love this band so much, and I’m sure that even if you don’t recognize their name you’ve heard their music, they’ve written songs such as: Stressed Out, Ride, Heathens, and Car Radio! They’re a great band and I definitely suggest listening to them, though quick notice before you read through this or listen to their music, a lot of their songs are on darker topics that are not entirely child appropriate. If you are struggling with mental health I definitely recommend listening to them, and if you’re not struggling with mental health I still recommend. But if you’re young and really haven’t struggled a bunch, I would advise to look into them a bit before getting into their music. So yeah! Here’s the lore, if you have any questions or if I didn’t explain something or if you where just lost let me know and I’ll yap some more in a clearer way! Unfortunately only Blurryface-Trench will fit in the description so I’m going to have to split this up into two/three parts depending on how much I need to clear up. Part two is the next project on my profile after this one :3
First we start with the character Blurryface. He is Tyler’s (lead singer) insecurity’s basically. Tyler said that he created the character Blurryface so that he could visualize it as a character that he could talk about. We mainly learn about Blurryface in the Blurryface era of their music and primarily in the song stressed out where he says “My name’s Blurryface and I care what you think.” In most of their music, you can tell that Blurryface is singing because he has a pitched down voice that sounds deeper than the rest of song (Tyler’s normal voice) Blurryface doesn’t have a whole bunch of direct lore when you first listen to it until you start connecting the dots between songs. Next they take a year off after going on their final tour for Blurryface and they’re silent. They don’t say anything on their social media or to dans for a year except for one time where Twenty one Pilots got invited to an awards ceremony that only Josh (the drummer) showed up too. He accepted the award and said Tyler wasn’t there because he was “Severing ties with Dema.” well no one at the time knew what Dema was so everyone was a bit confused. Until people found a website called dmaorg.com where a new character named Clancy posted letters about his life. His life in the city of ✨ Dema ✨ Well after they where done being silent they released their fourth album (second in the official lore timeline) titled Trench where it was all lore, all of it. Before I get into explaining all of Trench. There are some thing I gotta say. Trench is the continent where this all takes place, Dema is a large city in the continent where most people live. Also there are nine bishops, all with different names though the most prominent one in Tyler’s story is Nico. In Trench we start with the song Jumpsuit, which got a music video which mainly focused on Tyler and a red hooded figure (A bishop named Nico, aka Blurryface. Nico is Blurryface), in Trench, Tyler was able to convince Nico to let him leave Dema in the HeavyDirtySoul music video from Blurryface album, so that’s how he needed up there. Mainly in the video for Jumpsuit Tyler is found running from Nico until he gets caught. Nico smears black paint on Tyler’s neck, which basically causes him to go in like a manipulatable state. Tyler starts following Nico until these people called Banditos start throwing yellow flower petals at them. Something we learn in the Clancy letters is that Bishops (Nico) can’t see FCE300 which is the colour code for yellow. The yellow causes confusion among Nico letting Tyler be able to run away. Next is Levitate is where Tyler is in the Bandito camp staying away from the bishops. Until Tyler gets snatched by Nico and dragged back to Dema. There is nothing super lore related in the next few songs besides Chlorine, where we get introduced to a character named Ned, who will be more prominent later. Next is Neon Gravestones which introduces us to basically the religion in the lore called Vialism, which is basically where the nine bishops say “if you want your life to have been worth something you need to not be living anymore” which conveniently also helps the Bishops with something that will be addressed later. In the song Tyler is basically saying that he won’t give in to their ways and wants other people to think about that as well. The next song in the lore is Nico and the Niners where Tyler is planning to escape with Josh and the Banditos. The video starts in his house where we see him with a few yellow flowers in a drawer, each yellow flower signifies one time that he’s attempted to escape. At the end of the video Tyler and Josh get out of Dema again, but leave their stuff (Josh’s drums and Tyler’s jacket) and two children are found by the Bishops. The last song on the album is called Leave the City, which is exactly what it sounds like, Tyler is standing up against the Bishops and leaving the city.
