The light at the end of the tunnel might be an oncoming train. Or it could be Anna. I’m not sure I know which one I want it to be. At least a train doesn’t hate my guts. “Hurry up.” I tell Julie next to me. Well, really above me. “I’m almost done!” she yells back, like she’s been doing for the last half hour. I don’t bother her further. I don’t fully understand what she's doing, so I have no right to yell at her about it. “Almost done isn’t done!” I yell. I wouldn’t bother her if I was polite, or nice, or anything good. Which I’m not. | The light is closer now. It’s moving too slowly to be a train, which means it’s Anna. “Let’s go,” said Julie, dropping down beside me. A howl echoes through the tunnel. “She brought the wolves,” Julie says. Clearly, she’s come to the same conclusion as me. As she moves closer, I can start to see the wolves next to her, but her voice is still hidden by the light. I have to cover my eyes to keep from being blinded. “We meet once again, Liliana.” ✧ It was my first week at Weston and I was already the best at everything. Plenty of people hated me for it, for showing them all up on my first day, but I didn't care. I had Anna and that was enough. “But what about this?” Anna said from next to me, pointing to a piece of paper in the back of the file cabinet. I laughed. “I honestly have no idea.” Anna was helping organize everything, since that was something I was rubbish at. She picked up the paper delicately and threw it in the trash. “I guess we’ll never know, then.” I smiled and kissed her on the cheek. “I love you.” She smiled back. “I love you too.” ✧ “I’m sorry.” I said. “It’s fine.” Anna told me. “Completely understandable.” ✧ “How?” was the only word she spoke. “I’m not perfect.” I growl at her. I want to be mad, but she’s making it so hard. “You could have changed. You could have told us.” Anna says back, the hurt obvious in her voice. “Would you have accepted me? Would you have believed me? You wouldn’t have cared.” Anna has no response. ✧ I’m here again. On a mission for the Sparrows. I look at Julie and nod. The tunnel explodes.
