Ordinary World: A boy lives with his older sister; they live in a magical city where some of the buildings change locations every night. Call to Adventure: His older sister contracts a deadly virus, and the boy must seek out the city's magical apothecary to find the antidote. Refusal of the Call: The boy has heard of the rumors of how difficult it is to locate this apothecary. He turns to more traditional medicines to take care of his sister but to no avail. Meeting the Mentor: On a walk to the pharmacy to pick up more traditional medicine, the pharmacist gives the boy a clue about the apothecary: the apothecary only shows up at night. Crossing the First Threshold: The boy takes the pharmacist's advice, packs up his gear, says goodbye to his sister, and decides to explore the city during the night, despite the warnings of what happens to the city at night. Tests, Allies, Enemies: The boy enters various buildings in search of the apothecary; he meets various people: some of them help point him towards the general direction of the apothecary. However, shadow people lurk in the streets during the night and try to steal the boy's shadow; the boy learns to befriend these shadow people somehow. Additionally, some of the buildings contain corrupt dealers, who try to kill the boy. Approach to the Innermost Cave: The boy finally locates what seems to be the apothecary. Ordeal: When he enters the apothecary, he is met by the Alchemist. The Alchemist offers the cure, but requires a trade of something valuable; unfortunately, the boy has brought nothing but himself to the apothecary. It is ten minutes until dawn, and the boy must decide quickly what to trade. The Reward: The boy trades his sense of sight and hearing for the cure. The Alchemist places the vial in his hand. The Road Back: The boy blindly retraces his steps, running into walls as he tries to return home to his sister. Thieves try to steal from him and successfully take his vial. Resurrection: Without his sense of sight, the shadow people he befriended earlier come to his rescue. They scare off the thieves and return the vial to the boy and help him return home. Return with Elixir: He brings the cure to his Sister. He cannot see or hear his sister anymore, but he can sense that she is still here.
