Here he was again. Dreaming about that day. About the fire. Instead of flashes of that day, and Ignis's cries for help, he was actually reliving that day. He couldn't control what he was doing, and could only just watch. -5 years ago- Root whooped as he swung higher and higher on the swingset. He was swinging with Ignis, his best friend in the whole world. Or so he thought. He stopped swinging and leaped down, and sighed. "That was fun! What now, Ignis?" Ignis looked down. She was pretty, her light yellow fur seemed to shine in the summer sun. "Actually...I...have to tell you something. Mendax." Root was taken aback for a moment. Mendax was his real name, but everyone called him Root instead. It was an odd name, since it wasn't plant realated, and literally meant liar in latin. As if HE would ever lie! In school, he was known as the legend, for being brave and ALWAYS truthful. His mother chose it because she wanted him to be different from everyone else. All Root wanted was to blend in really, but he liked being popular. Perhaps his mother had a point. "What is it Ignis?" He asked, cocking his head. She shook her head. "It's about time I tell you...that's not my name. It's actually Falit. And...I'm not actually fire." Root stared at her. She picked up a daisy and looked at it, avoiding his gaze. "My real power...is possesing people. If I scratch or bite them, I can posses them. It kills them though, and only people with a specific mark can survive it." Root paused then burst out laughing. "You've been fantasizing too much, Ignis." Falit glared at him. "I'll prove it." A rabbit hopped by, and Falit bit it violently. It yelped before falling limp. Suddenly, Falit did too, and the rabbit started to move again. "See? It works on some animals too." It spoke. Root screamed, and then Falit was no longer limp. But...her eyes weren't normal. They were completely black, except for a small dark purple circle as the pupil. "Believe me now?" She said. Mendax stared at her and screamed again, running to the house. Falit chased after him. He ran into the bathroom, hiding. He glanced in the open cabnit. Inside, were matches. An idea popped into his head as he heard Falit getting closer. The fireman had found Falit. Her parents were sobbing, but not Mendax. He had killed his best friend, and he had no regrets. Maybe he was a liar.
