Wario Counting Grounded Simulator (1993, previously lost prototype) This game was created as part of Nintendo and Phillips' collaboration in the early-mid 90's. It was supposed to be released on the Phillips CD-I console in late 1994. This beta build is dated to sometime in 1993. This game was supposed to start a brand new, very experimental game series, which would follow the player living through seemingly normal situations in very unorthodox ways. The star of this series was supposed to be a wholly redesigned Wario to appeal to a western audience. Since this game entered development before any of the Wario Land titles, the Wario shown in this game is very different than how he is seen today. In this interpretation, Wario is a brain-dead simpleton who only knows how to count. The game's cancellation could be accredited to multiple factors. The first is Nintendo's falling out with Phillips and therefore the termination of their licensing deal. The other factor was that the voice actor for Wario in this game, Brad Pitt, was caught commiting multiple acts of domestic terrorism and was sentenced to life in prison. Later in 1995, the game was briefly revived for a release on the upcoming Nintendo Ultra 64, but this attempted revival barely entered the prototyping phase, and this version of the game is considered lost media.
When I found this game and dumped it, the disc was very scratched, so you'll get some kind of error when trying to choose a save file. I'm trying to track down another prototype so the game can be played in its entirety. This is kind of supposed to be a parody of those stupid analog horror video game things on Youtube. Y'know, the ones where you get jumpscared every ten seconds and can barely tell what's happening 95% of the time because of the stupid VHS filter covering everything? Yeah, those ones. Yes I will make an entire game out of this someday
