“Is she awake yet yet?” I heard someone whisper. I didn’t recognize their voice. I jolted up from the bed and slowly backed away towards the door. Wait, why was I in this place? Where was I? “You must be confused,” an old woman with a grey suit, who appeared to be a Cyclops, said. “My name is Mayumi, let me explain.” Who is she? Where is my family and my village? I darted past her and ran through the door into a large hallway with many doors and opened one that appeared to be an empty classroom, then barred it with a chair. I had a feeling Mayumi could come in anyway, but instead, she talked to me from behind the door. “Your family isn’t here anymore, child. I’m sorry. There was a fire in your village. They didn’t make it out.” That couldn’t be true. She must be lying… But my normally golden horns looked charred, and my arm did hurt. A lot. “You can come out whenever you’re ready for me to explain,” Mayumi said, and then I heard the sound of footsteps disappearing. I curled into a ball and sobbed.
