This was finished on July 23, 2024 & was shared on July 23, 2024 0) Links/info 1) Intro 2) Yappin 3) Backstory 4) Credits ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Kings, Queens, and Other mythical beings!! a CC! it's been awhile since i've entered one bc these kinds of CC's have been less popular lately. if you have time to spare, you should enter! the prizes are good and the lineart was easy to change and color :] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- this was a lot of fun to make i don't really like coloring but WOW was the shading fun to do. i don't normally do such harsh lighting but this was really really fun to do, i wouldn't be surprised if i did it again sometime in the future. i used the skills i learned in DD this year so i'm really happy about that :] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Backstory ---------------------- this is more of context/notes as to whats happening in this scene. Lazuli is the blue fox/the one laying down, Spider is the green fox/the one standing up. Lazuli startles awake, and in an attempt to gauge her surroundings, twists her head from side to side. Only for her to realise that she can't see anything whatsoever. She tenses, even more confused and scared, and quickly raises her ears to listen. The wind whistles through bushes, quiet crickets chirp, and soft, muffled breaths of someone nearby disrupt the peace. Tentatively, she sniffs. Her nose stings and burns as it's filled with the scent of nothing but ash. Her paws dig into whatever is under her-a blanket. It's soft and warm, but offers no comfort to her beating heart. She tries to speak, to call for her brother, he'll know what to do, but no sound comes out. She breathes more rapidly, her pounding heart filling her ears and rebounding in her skull. Her nose and throat sting and burn as she inhales and inhales and inhales the air around her. Tears roll down her fluffy cheeks-where is she? What happened? Spider peeks over at his sleeping sister. Her breaths are shallow but she's still breathing. She's still okay. He sighs quietly and closes his eyes again. She's okay. She's safe. He looks over at her again. Still fine. Shakily, he stands to his paws. It's harder now, only having three legs and a shorter tail means balancing is difficult, but he manages. He glances over at the nearby sleeping figures, other animals who were lucky enough to escape the burning forest with their lives. A sharp pain shoots through his head as he recalls the night. A bright light. Sharp, glinting fangs advancing towards him. Smoke and ash filling his lungs as his sister slips farther away from him, into the blaze. He glances at her. She's still sleeping, she's still fine, still alive, still here. He breathes out a sigh of relief, standing there quietly. He was just barely able to protect her this time, he got lucky. Very, very lucky. He trembles as the thoughts of what could've happened fill his head. He stands there, over his sister, protecting her for hours. He doesn't notice when she raises her head. Or when she starts crying. He doesn't notice, because he can't forget what it was like. To watch her slip away from him, deeper into the forest. To watch her fall unconscious as the smoke filled her lungs. To watch her body glow a bright yellow as her fur caught ablaze. He can't forget, but he hopes she does. He can deal with the memories of that night, but Lazuli needs to learn how to deal with everything she lost that night. Her sight. Her voice.
