I have heard that ST (Scratch Team) is thinking of adding A.I. art to scratch. I have seen several projects from other artists protesting about this and I would like to create one of those projects, so here is the list of problems with A.I. art in general and specifically on Scratch: 1. A.I. Art Steals From Real Artists The way A.I. art works is that it takes art from all over the internet that fit the prompt and puts them together. This means that A.I. art is STEALING from real artists! Those artists could be beginners who have just posted their first art piece or professional artists. (I'm pretty sure that means that there are some copyright issues with the latter but I'm not an expert in that). If Scratch adds A.I. art they will be STEALING art from all over the internet just so someone can fake making art. 2. A.I. Art Removes Creativity, Especially When Available to Young People If Scratch adds A.I. art, what's stopping someone from lying and saying they spent hours on it instead of just typing something into a search bar? What's stopping kids from being like "Well, I'd rather just type something then spend hours working on a beautiful, original, work of art that is truly mine"? The answer is NOTHING. People (especially younger kids) will stop creating their own art which means they won't use their creativity at all and they will never work on their skills and achieve the satisfaction of watching themselves grow as they continue to create! That will be GONE if A.I. art is added. 3. A.I. Art is Potentially Dangerous for Young Kids A.I. art largely increases the likelihood of kids (by accident or on purpose) finding inappropriate images online. The internet is already not safe enough for children, we need to keep Scratch as safe as it possibly can be for those kids who are scratch's main users! 4. If Scratch Adds This it May Lose Many of it's Creators I cannot speak for the rest of the art community, but if Scratch adds A.I. art I am GONE. I will abandon my accounts IMMEDIATELY and I probably won't be the only one. Kids who no longer feel safe or parents who want to protect their kids will leave/make their kids leave Scratch. Artists of all ages will abandon this platform to avoid their art being STOLEN. I will be one of these artists. I do not particularly want to leave scratch as it is now: even though I am generally inactive, I still love and favorite projects and comment on stuff quite a lot. The fact of the matter is: if A.I. art is added to Scratch I will abandon it. For my safety. Both as an artist and as a person. I do not want to lose Scratch, it is the only place on the internet where I have ever shared my art and I feel that it is a safe space for a lot of people trying to avoid the not-age-appropriate parts of the internet or their art being stolen. That will be gone. And as a result, I think several artists (including those who are active) may decide to completely leave scratch. If anyone on ST or who knows anyone on ST is seeing this: don't let that happen.
This project is from before I left Scratch. I have kept it up to protest the possibility of Scratch adding A.I.. This has been inspired by several projects (I wish I could link them but when I did ST took down the project even though all of the links were to other scratch projects) If you would like to view those projects, I suggest going to the studios this one is a part of. I do NOT support any harmful words or actions towards the Scratch Team. I encourage you to look into this issue or even make a project of your own. #stopscratchai
