7/25/24 ꒱ Caraval - Stephanie Garber ☆ 3.5 ⏰ ᴛᴀᴋᴇɴ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ - 3 ᴅᴀʏs ☎️ Warning - I tried my best to leave out any spoilers from my review, but there still may be some /slight/ spoilers❗️ ꒰ Prior to reading Caraval, I had already read Garber's newer series, Once Upon A Broken Heart, which I didn't know should've been read after Caraval, but honestly, I didn't have any confusion while reading this. So, although I've only read Caraval so far, I believe that you don't necessarily have to read this series first. (Although this book does have Donetella as the main character and it hints at J on the last page of the book. (IYKYK AHH) (I don't wanna include the full name cause its a little bit of a spoiler)) ꒰ I loved reading this book a lot, but I gave it 3.5 stars because since I've already read OUABH, I really enjoyed how Garber wrote that story so much more. (However, I know that this is her debut novel, and she's definitely improved since 2017!!) ꒰ To be honest, I wasn't really feeling Scarlett and Julian's relationship, but I was kinda wondering if that was what Garber intended...? Just a thought. :') ꒰ Can we also talk about the way she wrote Legend?? His character is a masterpiece. Stephanie managed to make Legend this charming, lovable person, when in reality he's the VILLAN. Legend kind of reminded me of Anderson from the Shatter Me series, they were both so charming, but then they would do something so horrible, and it reminded me why I hated them. ꒰ THE PLOT TWISTS. Oh my gosh- This book was filled with so many twists and turns, keeping me hooked. Just when I thought the storyline had settled and was going smoothly, another event would happen that would shake up the storyline, making this book so fun to read!! ꒰ Not gonna lie: Tella was a really bad and annoying sister, but I only tolerated her because Scarlett did. ❤️❤️ ꒰ Overall, I enjoyed Caraval so much, and the plot was>>!! Stephanie Garber is definitely one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to read the rest of the Caraval series and to see what she writes next!! ꒰ Definitely would recommend for anyone who loved reading Powerless, ACOTAR, the Grishaverse, or Folk of the Air!! ☎️ Spoiler-Free Quotes ꒱ ❱❱ "Don't look at me like that," Scarlett said. "It doesn't work on me." "That's why it's so fun." ❱❱ "Not quite sure how far she'd already fallen, she imagined loving him would feel like falling in love with darkness, frightening and consuming yet utterly beautiful when the stars came out." ❱❱ "...but now she imagined he was more like a starry night: the constellations were always there, constant, magnificent guides against the ever-present black."
