The title character of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise, Sonic is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who can run at supersonic speeds and curl into a ball to attack enemies. The speedy blue hero Sonic takes his inspiration from the humble hedgehog. There are seventeen different species of hedgehog around the world - but as far as we know, none of them can run as fast as Sonic! Sonic's pals are also inspired by animals - Knuckles is an echidna, and Tails is a fox. Sonic is known for its use of carhops on roller skates and hosts an annual competition (in most locations) to determine the top skating carhop in the company.
