Yesterday I was going to my old house for sale and I saw a dog. Pale brown with dark brown on its snout. It followed the car as it slowed and wagged it's tail. My pet chickens were free range and I figured the dog was friendly enough to leave the property on its own, not harming any pets. I came back a few hours later. It was almost night so I went around trying to find the chickens to lock back up in the coop where they would be safe. I found four chickens. I had left with nine. I wondered where the rest were. I found another chicken, the rooster, and got it in the coop. I then had five in the coop and four lost. There were piles of feathers scattered everywhere. I was concerned. Then I found three dead chickens. Necks snapped and big piles of feathers around them. The dog killed them for game, not food. I gave them a burial. One chicken I didn't find, dead or alive. I trusted the neighbor's dog and ended up with three dead pets and one lost to the forest. I'm not feeling the best right now.
In my opinion this was my fault. All I had to do was scare off that stupid dog. Now I have myself to blame.
