I have finally completed this project! Out of the several projects that I have started, this is the first to come out! I had others... some I didn't finish... some the art is complicated... and one in particular Scratch just won't let me upload. Anyone have an idea why? This is a short story about Joan of Arc, a French female soldier who was a messenger from God, and she saved France from the clutches of Britain in the time of the 100 year's war. Below I have a paper I wrote about her and how she's an upstander, and how she connects to my life. If any of you take the time to read it, please tell me if there are any errors or mistakes! Joan of Arc- France’s Ultimate Weapon. A woman of immense power and strength, with a will not even death could break. Military Leader, Warrior, and today is a Saint. She is recognized as a woman greater than any today- and her will remains unbroken. In Joan’s time, there was a struggle for the crown between King Henry IV, a British king, and King Charles VII of France, the country in which Joan was loyal. In her early years, she heard voices from God saying that she was to save her land and take it back from the British. She was born in the year 1412, and in her day, the only thing women were good for was going to convent or marrying and having a family. She was called to a different path, one that was completely different from anything that had ever been done before, by any woman. She took a step out of the path that was paved for her, cut her hair, crossdressed, and went to King Charles VII, wanting to deliver her message. She gave her message to the King, and led the French side of the Siege at Orleans. Her goal was to reject the classic French style of fighting; one whose roots remain at non-aggressive, guarded fighting. She changed the concept of French fighting, and set out to capture the fortress of Saint Loup, which she did, creating the first spark of a flame that would grow to save France. The next day she set out to conquer Saint Jean le Blanc, and the fire grew. Joan fought for what God told her to fight for, and today psychologists question if she was mad, or if God really was guiding her in her ways and decisions. If she wasn’t following God, she was following the call to justice, and that is exactly what an upstander does. According to the Urban dictionary, the definition of an upstander is, “A person who stands up for his or her beliefs. A person who does what they think is right, even if they are alone.” Joan stood up for her country, and in a time of war and peril, she definitely was alone in her ways of resolution. And she was alone even more so in her charge of Les Tourelles. Joan had come before the war council to demand another offensive attack against the British, but her requisition was repudiated, and the gates of Les Tourelles were locked and bolted in order to prevent the attack she was so keen on carrying through. She was alone in her offensive plans, but she gathered a handful of soldiers and townspeople and successfully unbolted the gate. Their siege was completed, and after surviving an arrow through the neck, she pushed even further for the British to yield. In this battle, there’s evidence of the French and their success, but it was all because Joan stood for her beliefs and did what was right for her country, even if her country didn’t know it and she was alone. To me, Joan d’Arc was an amazing woman who inspires me to keep going. I’ve been bullied all my life by the people around me, but there have always been people in my life who have encouraged me to keep going, and Joan has been one of them. My life goal is to attend the United States Air Force Academy, and doing that contains extreme difficulties, especially considering that there’s only an 11 percent acceptance rate. She persevered through what anyone else told her, and I’ve been working toward being like that, and today, I have absolute confidence that I am. I want to continue to emulate her, and receive a calling from God to do what He says. I learn from her, and I know I always will, even when I have learned all of the lessons she went through and gained all the knowledge that she carried with her through the horrendously large world of bystanders. “Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had a hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King's daughter, I would have gone nevertheless.” ~~>Joan of Arc This art actually took me quite a bit of time... I was a little rushed with the boy with the Joan shirt on, although I did enjoy creating Joan! I've drawn versions of her before, but this was the first one done digitally. What do you all think?
