The Thumbnail for this episode was drawn by the incredible @derf2010 (and it won the thumbnail contest!) [ Thumbnail contest info below: ] This mid-season contest is a Thumbnail Contest for the SRCast you’re about to hear! [ How can I enter? ] 1. To enter, draw a thumbnail for this episode of the SRCast - and choose a fitting title for the episode! 2. Name your project "SRCast 57 Thumbnail - [YOUR EPISODE TITLE]" and add it to the contest studio: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/35491061/ 3. When the time is up, we will decide on a winning thumbnail that will stay on this project forever! The top three entries will also get access to the golden srWimmers emote for all SRCast from now on! [ Important Rules! ] - The Thumbnail must somewhere contain the people talking (@klabss, @Redd_Chili, @Apfellord and @ktrav258) - The Thumbnail should somehow represent broadly what we talked about in the episode and can contain some more references to stuff we mentioned or the SRCast in general. - The winning thumbnail will become the thumbnail for the episode, both on Scratch and Youtube - so make sure to take both aspect ratios into account! (Draw in 16:9, but make sure the most important stuff is in the middle section, for the 4:3 aspect ratio on Scratch) [ FAQ: ] Do I need to add the episode number, title and the SRCast Logo to the thumbnail? - No, we only need the artwork. You'll provide the Episode title in your project title, and we'll add everything together in the end, when we have decided on a winner. Should I use bitmap or vector art? - Both are fine, choose whichever one you like! Can I make different versions for the Youtube and Scratch aspect ratios? - Yes, but they should not be drastically different. (They should still contain the same main elements and not be different drawings entirely.) Can I enter with multiple different artworks? - Yes, but we will only choose the one we think fits the best and rate and display that one. What happens if my drawing isn't in the exact Aspect Ratio you need (16:9 or 4:3)? - That's okay, but we will have to crop and rate it accordingly. Can I enter with artwork that wasn't drawn in Scratch? - Sure! But you need to upload it in a Scratch project to enter or provide a link to it in the notes and credits of your Scratch project. Can my thumbnail be animated? - No. We have made animated thumbnails before, but for the sake of keeping it simple and have every thumbnail be possible to use, it cannot be animated. How are the entries being rated? Big answer, rating is split into two categories: 1. The Artwork. The artwork is being rated based on whether it looks aesthetically pleasing and interesting, how well it captures the content of this SRCast and lastly, it's technical functionality. 2. The Title. A fitting title cleverly nods to the content of the episode and can even tie it and the artwork together. It should be short, sweet and engaging, as we usually only have two small lines of text to work with. To elaborate on the artwork rating: Aesthetically pleasing and interesting does not necessarily mean it has to be a complex drawing or contain EVERY single thing we mentioned. The style can be anything you like, but some might fit this SRCast better or just generally be more inviting and some topics might have been more prevalent than others. If you can combine things we talked about under a theme and cleverly implement other references, that's what captures the content of the SRCast well. Technical functionality means that you kept an eye out for the "danger zones" that are later being covered by the Episode title and number, and the SRCast Logo in the corners. If you're only drawing one, wide thumbnail, be sure to keep the most important bits in the middle section, where it will also be seen in the less wide Scratch Thumbnail.
