How I learned to dress scene on a tight budget And how you can do it too We are covering a few bases: Kandi Clothing Accessories Acquiring Items Where do I start Let’s go! Kandi First thing I think is important is the Kandi. How to start with that: 1. U can buy ~2000 pony beads on USA Amazon for 12$ (at the top of the 12$ search I found) 2. U can buy ~220 yards of 1mm elastic for 10$ at the top of the search 3. There are /hundreds/ of tutorials on YouTube for Kandi, Kandi crafts, Kandi charms, Kandi cuffs, etc. Of course, I’m 100% sure u could find cheaper options, I literally only looked for 20 minutes lol, and I could find u all some tutorial playlists, especially the ones I found easiest. Clothing. Second thing you need is good base clothing. By base clothing, I mean a few essentials that are very easy to find. You might even have them already! Note: these are the most easy things to style for me, but once you get the hang of it you can put together your own style choices 1. Black or striped pants, leggings, or tights (if tights you’d want a skirt, preferably a miniskirt or something) 2. Black, dark t-shirts or crop tops, and graphic t-shirts or crop tops 3. Black boots or black/dark shoes of any kind. To spice them up to look more scene-y, you can add pony beads and charms to the laces 4. Black or striped armwarmers/fingerless gloves. To diy your own armwarmers you can get long socks, slice off the feet, and roll the edges to stop fraying Accessories Another thing that’s important is accessories. Some good ones include 1. Chokers. I actually got dog/cat collars from the pet store for like 3$ and they worked really well 2. Belts. Black or multicolored, they are useful for pulling an outfit together. 3. If you wear earrings, you can make dangle earrings out of Kandi too 4. Keychains. I just happen to find cute scenecore keychains at my local convenience store for like 1-2$, but you can also make your own from Kandi. There’s so many tutorials for those online. 5. Yarn tail. For me this was a huge part of my entire look. And while it may be different for you, seeing as I am a furry (lol hehe), I think it added so much to my entire aesthetic. I can find you all tutorials on how to make one too! Acquiring everything So you are looking at this and you are like, “but I don’t have belts, or graphic tees, or etc, etc” Well here are some ways I found some of my staples. Remember, everything good takes patience! 1. Thrifting. I went to bargain bins, resellers, everything. Even if you only have one Salvation Army or goodwill near you, it’s worth it to check it out. You can sometimes find gems for cheap! 2. Markets. I found some of my best finds at the the outdoor markets that my town has every week (idk if any are near u) 3. Diy. There are always so many resources to learn diy and diy itself is a huge part of the alt community. You can alter tees, pants, belts, all that lovely stuff 4. Hand-me-downs. Ask other members of the family if they have anything you could possibly need! Where do I start? If you are looking at this entire thing and are getting overwhelmed like “where do I start? What do I need?”, let me give rough estimates. 1. Kandi. That immediately shifts the aesthetic to a more alt look 2. The accessories I mentioned are extremely helpful with the appearance 3. Dark/baggy clothes actually help, just make sure not everything is too baggy 4. Everything else will come together in time, just go with the flow Well that’s all I have for now! Hope this helped you in your alt/scene journey! Thanks for reading! !!disclaimer!! I am not in any way an expert or a representative of the entire community, nor is this intended to throw shade on other aesthetics. This is all just personal experience that I found to be helpful.
