When I was asked for the first time to participate as a videogames teacher of some american high school students I was glad to know that the mentioned students were eager to learn not about videogames but about the technology, and design that make them alive. I couldn’t deny such an opportunity. And I join the “Perspective Charter Schools” last day. Thanks to the amazing organization of Mr. John Kazibut (Chief Engineer, OTS at IIT), and Harsper Walker-Coats (Administrative coordinator, Office of community affairs & outreach programs ), the students were using some IIT laptops to follow the class and develop their first videogame in the perfect environment. As a teacher I provided the students with some knowledge and tools. But, I also set a challenge: being able to develop a simple 2D videogame in just a day. And... there was a reason for them to be there, they were bright and creative students. Of course all of them succeeded in the goal of creating a videogame, demonstrating that young bright boys and girls are everywhere, they just need a small help and some confidence to become a great success. by Victor Sanchez.
