some characters in a couple of popular comics who have situations that may be considered slightly ableist? this isn’t really a rant, just pointing some things out i noticed. @9rainbowtails @skittlesthebunny [sorted out] silentear [toph] situation - i feel like having only one deaf character out of at least a hundred characters being a medicine cat whose name is seemingly based on the fact they’re deaf is a little strange? it could just be the one who named them and/or made them a medicine cat if they didn’t ask for it themself was ableist [or not in a good mindset, like what happened with bluestar and brightheart], but both of those factors combined with them being seemingly the only deaf character is a bit. questionable. [sorted out] ruby [crystals] situation - in the first few chapters they were mute but at some point in chapter 8 they just randomly gained the ability to speak?? since it was after they? hallucinated?? it might have an in-universe explanation but it feels weird since there’s seemingly no given explanation already, considering how long the comic has been going on for. again seems a little questionable - anyway, while it’s deep in the comics and it could be hard to change it now, there’s still some weirdly ableist implications with these two situations and i think there’s room for improvement. other disabled characters could also potentially help with the problem but it’s also risky in case something with weird implications happens again
hoping i don't get executed for this HELPP
