Spiritkit groaned and sat up. The nursery was empty, besides Swallowfeather, Nestkit, and... "Ack!" Spiritkit mewed. "Get out of my face, Scatterkit!" Scatterkit giggled, before pausing and tilting his head. "So... you still haven't realized?" He asked. Spiritkit felt confused. "Realized wha- OH." Realization struck her like a bullet. "Today's our apprenticeship ceremony! Oh my gosh- oh my gosh- We're going to be actual apprentices! We're gonna... gonna..." Spiritkit's excitement drained away. "We're going to get our curses." She whispered. Scatterkit nuzzled her. "It's gonna be okay, Dad told me it doesn't hurt one bit. Plus, we'll be together." Spiritkit nodded, grateful for her brother's presence. Suddenly, Quietmist burst into the den and haphazardly started cleaning the kits. "Moomm" Scatterkit groaned as the frantic mother started smoothing his head fluff. Spiritkit didn't protest as Quietmist started cleaning her, she sort of understood her mother's nervousness. "Let all cats old enough to traverse the mist gather around the Highstump for a clan meeting." Spiritkit's heart beat faster. This was it. She padded out of the nursery with her brother at her side, and her mother behind her. The clan gathered eagerly, yet solemnly, around the mossy stump that their father sat on. "Spiritkit and Scatterkit." The murmurings of the clan fell silent as Smokestar began the ceremony. "You two have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. Scatterkit, step forward." Spiritkit watched as her brother stepped forward, not a sign of nervousness on his face. "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be know as Scatterpaw. Your mentor will be Cloudedfang." A faded blue she-cat stepped forward from the crowd, Scatterpaw and her touched noses for a second, before pulling away. The two returned to their spots. "Spiritkit, step forward." Smokestar began again. Spiritkit could feel her legs trembling as she padded in front of Smokestar. "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be know as Spiritpaw. Your mentor will be Pinetail." The clan's deputy stepped forward with a warm smile, which made Spiritpaw feel better. The two touched noses, before pulling away. The clan began chanting the apprentices' new names. "Scatterpaw! Spiritpaw! Scatterpaw! Spiritpaw!" Smokestar dipped his head in acceptance. "Clan dismissed." He told everycat, before leaping off of the highstump. Spiritpaw looked to her mentor. Pinetail smiled. "Well, normally I would take you to explore the territory... but... I think your father may want to have a word with you." Spiritpaw turned around to find Smokestar standing behind her, as well as Scatterpaw. "Go see Berrytree for the mouse-bile." He told the two. Spiritpaw and Scatterpaw nodded. "Yes, Dad." they said in unison. The two started to pad towards the med-den, striking up a conversation. "Did you feel a curse happening?" Spiritpaw asked. Scatterpaw shook his head. "Nope, nothing. You think it's a joke?" "I doubt it. I wonder how quickly the curse happe-" Suddenly Spiritpaw started to feel very woozy. Her ears rang, and her heart beat. "Spiritpaw?! Are you okay?!" Scatterpaw asked panickedley. Spiritpaw's vision blurred, and the last thing she remembered was the rough feeling of the ground hitting her, then it all faded away
