Scratch (as a company) has made some decisions in the past that I think should have warranted some reconsideration, but this was definitely the straw that broke the camel's back. The first thing I'd like to tackle is the irony. Scratch is supposed to be a place where creativity and originality is strongly encouraged, and I feel the use of AI accomplishes quite the opposite. Prompting some thoughtless technological algorithm to formulate something (that will NEVER amount to what humans can create) isn't going to help people discover what they may be capable of; it'll only teach them how to tell something else what to make and how to make it instead of teaching themselves. I'd also like to explain why I generally think this is a bad idea. We've got 92 million people on this website that are working hard to bring their ideas to life, and a lot of them get overlooked simply because they're not popular. Adding AI isn't going to make this problem better; in fact, it'll make things worse. Let's say User A uses artificial intelligence to create something that might be beyond the realm of possibilities of what User B is capable of doing, even though User B uses immense effort and lots of time to create their projects. Time goes by and User A is now getting tons of recognition for something that they didn't really make, while User B goes unnoticed despite their best efforts to create a good project. *I'm not saying that something like that is definitely going to happen, but it's only one example of what might happen if we introduce AI to Scratch. I think Scratch would be a better place if the team focused on stuff that the community would find useful instead of some gimmick that takes away from what Scratch should've been about. While it might seem unfortunate, we still need to accept the fact that it may still happen. The only thing us genuine creators can do is keep on doing our stuff and make things that we're happy with. AI may be able to mimic some types of art, but our ideas and enjoyment will never be replaced. That is all. ~ Sorry if I was rambling a little; this is something I feel pretty strongly about. It's pretty frustrating when you find out what you've been using to share your ideas since fifth grade has decided to introduce the one thing you thought it was supposed to rebut.
