Today I bring you a tutorial on how to get a crispy pfp :D I know I look a little unqualified to be giving this advice considering how my current pfp is, but I assure you, it’s only cronchy bcuz the original image was very compressed. It is technically crispy! ⚠️ PLEASE VIEW THIS PROJECT IN FULLSCREEN IN ORDER TO CLEARLY SEE THE IMAGES/SLIDES ⚠️ This tutorial works with the following file types: GIF, JPG, PNG, APNG*, WebP *maybe, wasn’t able to test this -—- Terms: • Crispy refers to an image being clear & high-quality. • Crunchy/Cronchy refers to an image being compressed & low-quality. • Let me know if there are any terms you don’t recognize & I’ll add them here! -—- Notes on Individual Slides: 1 • No note 2 • No note 3 • https://ezgif.com 4 • ONLY crop the image if you want to cut out other parts of it! Cropping essentially works like zooming into part of the image, so if it’s fine how it is then don’t crop it. 5 • https://ezgif.com/crop 6 • You technically don’t have to do this, since resizing the image later will make it square anyways (if you make it 500x500), but it helps the image get resized more evenly later. Keeping it square is just a good idea for pfps. 7 • When I was cropping it here, I set those numbers to 500x500. If I had actually wanted the cropped version of this image, I wouldn’t have to resize the image at all & would have skipped right to the WebP step. If you’re able to crop images down to 500x500 it’s a good idea! If not, try to keep the tens place 00, 25, 50, or 75. 8 • No note 9 • No note 10 • https://ezgif.com/resize 11 • This tutorial works for studio thumbnails as well! If you want a crispy studio TN, make the height 375 instead of 500 (or make it 480x360). You don’t HAVE to make it 500x500, any resolution below that works as well! It just won’t be the highest possible quality. This works best when you’re sizing DOWN an image that’s BIGGER than 500x500. If you’re using one that’s, for example, 100x100, sizing it UP to 500x500 will pixelate it & will usually make the image quality worse: so in that case it’s best to just crop the image so it’s square & not bother resizing it. 12 • No note 13 • https://ezgif.com/webp-maker 14 • For the longest time I was confused why a singular image would need two frames as a WebP, so I tried this without duplicating the frame & when I uploaded it to scratch, it wasn’t the same quality as before. I don’t know what it is about having multiple frames, but it makes it better for some reason. Don’t bother with the delay time unless you’re using a gif, usually the gif frames will upload themselves with a specific delay time set anyways so usually you don’t have to change that setting. Only mess with it if the timing of the gif is off in the final product. Don’t worry about the “don’t stack frames” if you’re not using a gif, still images are fine even if they do have transparent pixels. You don’t have to worry about it if the gif has no transparent pixels either. 15 • Sometimes, even when Ezgif says the file is within 512KB, Scratch might be stinky if it’s too close to the limit (such as being 510KB). It’s best to be safe & change the image quality slider if the limit is that close. Also technically it’s 0.512MB, but usually Ezgif provides the unit in KiB so you shouldn’t have to worry about that. [0.512MB & 512KB are the same amount, just in different units (megabytes & kilobytes).] If the file size is too large, you really don’t have to move the slider all that much. Whenever I’ve encountered the size being too big, just setting it to 99 usually decreases the file size enough to fit within Scratch’s limits. Mess around with where that slider needs to be to get the highest possible image quality that’s within Scratch’s file size range. 16 • No note 17 • I’ve had to upload WebP images up to 5 times before due to this error message. Don’t let Scratch tell you what file types you are & aren’t allowed to upload >:( 18 • Yeah. Cronch. You can hardly make out any detail! 19 • So much more crispy! You can actually make out the details now :) Once I was introduced to crispy pfps I never went back to using normal ones, & I am now just a liiittle bit obsessed with crispness lol. I’ve called myself the chief of crispy police before. Everything must be crispy if it can be. 20 • This process seems a little complicated, but the more you do it the more you’ll get used to process & it’ll be a breeze after a while! Keep up the crisp ;] -—- Tags: -—-
