The school had been founded, but so far, very few had actually joined. Rubel lay on her bed one night and let out a long sigh. All the work they had put into this place, and the only kids that had showed up were street kids. She rolled over and pressed her face into her pillow. She was half way through thinking the question,"Why??" when it came to her, It. Of course it was It. There was no other explanation except It. it was the reason behind every problem they had faced recently. The glob of meat, Ruby's temper-tantrums, no student's. All of it was It's fault! That was when she heard it. A slight voice on the breeze,"come." it said eerily. She turned over and sat up in bed. The voice came again,"come." Rubel got up, not to obey the voice, to tell the truth Rubel wouldn't have followed it's order's unless Sapphire was brought back, no she got up to have a look around, make sure random people weren't sneaking into their cave at night. She had reached the main cavern, guided by her flame, and still, saw nothing. She was beginning to think she had just heard the wind when she noticed something, the shadows... they were moving. In a split second she realized what this meant, but it was to late. A wall of tangible, suffocating shadow rammed into her from both sides and knocked the wind out of her, she tried to light the whole cavern on fire but the smell given off by the shadow made her sleepy and before she knew it, she was unconscious. She woke, tied in a chair, a gag in her mouth, and darkness surrounding her,"What the...?" she thought. Shouldn't she be dead. It after all was what had got her, she was sure of it! And yet she wiggled her fingers and toes, squirmed in her chair and opened and closed her eyes. Yep she was alive. Or was she? Maybe this was the after life. But why would they tie her up? And why was there darkness everywhere? And why did she remember everything? She sat there those questions spinning around in her head. When suddenly a red glow appeared, she looked up to see a figure holding a red lamp, standing in what must be a door way. But everything was fuzzy, indistinct, even the red glow flickered like a candle. The figure started coming to her,"Maybe I've gone to hell." she thought. However she wasn't surprised. After all she had done ,after all the innocents she had murdered just because they thought she was a witch. After Umek... she froze. No. She shouldn't think about him. Not after what he had done... the figure by now had reached her. It set down it's lamp and sat with legs criss-crossed on the floor. Rubel could now see that it was female. She was tall and willowy, with short hair, but her face was hidden in shadow. The figure reached up and took off Rubel's gag. Rubel looked at the shadow genuinely curious,"Who are you?" asked Rubel. What happened next made Rubel jump. A bright blinding light appeared and then was gone. Rubel blinked to get her vision back. She had turned her head to the floor so she looked up at the figure. Her jaw dropped. It Was Sapphire. And she was smiling. Sapphire spoke, her voice calm as ever,"Welcome Rubel. And no..." "...We're not dead."
