I stared out the window. I could see the smoke from the Hogwarts Express billowing across the lawn. It was windy and Madam Pomfrey had cracked the window open. The door opened for the visiting hour. Emily, Teddy, Havi, Jackie, Logan, and Asher all came in and gathered around my bed. I tried to sit up a bit, grunting from the pain. Emily sat on the bed, Havi and Asher were standing next to it, Teddy sat next to me on the bed, Jackie leaned against the wall, and Logan dragged a chair over and sat down, cross legged. "We'll miss you Matt," Emily said. "I know, me too." I said. "Mate, do you really have to sit in bed? What about. . . Well, you know?" Teddy asked. I shot him a look. "Will you survive without us?" Havi asked. "I think I'll be alright," I gave a weak smile. "We are really going to miss you." Emily said. "I think you'll survive without me." I said. I really didn't want to have to stay, but I had to. "We'll send letters, everyday if you want them." Jackie said, pushing her glasses up. "So you don't get lonely." "Yeah, I'd like that." I smiled for the first time since I learned I had to stay. Madam Pomfrey came in and began to usher others out. "Visiting hours are over!" She said. "Hurry, now you don't want to miss the train!" Jackie turned around. "Thank you, we'll be out as soon as possible." She said. Madam Pomfrey understood, and walked away. "Well, see you later." Havi said, and waved I waved back. "We'll miss you!" Emily cried, and hugged me. Everyone else joined her in hugging me. "Bye!" They all said and started to leave. Emily stayed behind. "You'll see me again." I said, trying to make her feel better. "I know, but I don't know what next year will bring! My father could come back any day now." She started to cry a little. "I'm going to miss you, Emily." I said, straightening up a little. "I will too," she sniffled. "I'll write to you, everyday." "Okay, I'll write back." I said. What came next felt like I didn't do it, but I did. It was like someone else did it for me, but I meant it. I took her hand, and kissed it, then I hugged her. "Bye, Matt." She said, as we let go of each other and she left. As I watched the door close I thought to myself: //Well, what a way to end a year!//
