The air hung heavy with an almost reverent stillness as the players stepped into the opera theater. The room seemed to pulse with an otherworldly vibrancy, every surface shimmering like a treasure trove locked away in the heart of the earth. Walls encrusted with emeralds, sapphires, and rubies glinted like a star-strewn sky, while the velvet seats of the box theater glowed as if bathed in moonlight. A massive crystal chandelier, shaped like a blooming rose, cast fragmented rainbows across the space, its light dancing eerily on the intricate gold-leaf carvings that adorned the ceilings. The stage itself, framed by curtains of obsidian black, seemed almost alive, the wood polished to a mirror-like finish that reflected the gems above. At the center, a hulking pipe organ stood like a sleeping giant, its gilded pipes arched like the spines of ancient beasts, promising a sound that could rattle souls. From the shadows, The Phantom Usher emerged, his cape trailing like a plume of smoke, his glowing skeletal gloves clasping his ever-present lantern. His mask gleamed under the chandelier’s fractured light, its crack seemingly deeper now, like a wound splitting his expressionless face. He stopped center stage, his presence commanding the room, and his voice, a hoarse whisper that slithered into every ear, began to explain. “Welcome, Players,” he intoned, his voice soft yet resonant enough to still the air. “You stand in the Hall of Gems, a stage of unparalleled beauty and peril. This is your first challenge. The rules are simple: to win this game, you must find the hidden playbill and inscribe your name within it. Only then will the path forward open to you. But beware—failure to comply with the rules or complete the task will come at a price.” He raised a hand, skeletal fingers trailing faint wisps of light. “To lose is to falter, to linger too long in indecision or to act without purpose. Punishment awaits those who fail—a punishment both swift and lingering. Should you fall to the depths unprepared, you may find yourself trapped in shadows you cannot escape.” A low rumble began to echo through the theater as the organ behind him stirred to life, its notes trembling like a storm on the horizon. “Remember,” he hissed, “this stage is not kind. It will test your courage, your wit, your will to survive. To falter is to descend into oblivion.” Before anyone could react, the organ’s haunting melody swelled, deep and resonant, shaking the very walls. The chandelier flickered, casting wild shadows as the box seats began to shift. The floors beneath the players dropped away like trapdoors, their cries swallowed by the organ’s thunderous chords. The gem-encrusted walls, veiled with Thick Curtains and Candelabras, tilted inward, revealing a gaping void below– the hue of Nevermore...
How to play the puzzle: Everyone MUST REMIX this project and write character reactions. Puzzle one is simple, survive the fall and get to the bottom of the pit safely. You can write the initial response in the description or comments. Those with hints/clues on puzzle one I'll secretly notify soon. Write the Actual Character actions, such as bracing for a fall or attempting to slow down. Be creative, and true to personality, and if you have items, feel free to use those. I'll respond to projects on how successful everyone is, and then the second part on what's revealed in the pit will be revealed. Only write about reactions and slowing the fall, i will soon reveal what is in the pit. :)
