Chapter 5 The creature rose, lifting its scaly arms up. Draco screamed like a little girl. The boat started tipping over. Sarah and Mia scrambled over to the other side where Diane was standing, Sarah dragging Draco behind her. "First years!" A witch standing near the entrance of the castle screamed and in seconds there were five professors at the gate shooting spells at the monster. "Stupefy!" A first year screamed. She would recognize that voice anywhere. Elora. She whipped around. There on a boat next to her were Elora and Neville Longbottom. 'No time for staring now, Diane.' she thought. Diane flipped and ran through her mental lists of spells she had been taught from her father. "Incendio!" she shouted. the creature reeled back and sank under the surface. Diane let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. "IT'S GONNA K!LL ME! I'M GOING TO D!E! AHHH!!!" Draco screamed and whimpered. Sarah rolled her eyes. "Shut your mouth up, Draco." Sarah crossed her arms and leaned against the boat. Laughter erupted on one of the boats. Diane looked towards it. Of course. Potter, Weasley and Granger. Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Um excuse me, but do you need something?" Sarah asked. Diane narrowed her eyes at them, but before she could do anything, Hagrid made the boats reach the castle as fast as they could. Most people lost their balance and fell over. Diane didn't. Mia ran up to Diane and hugged her. "Thank goodness, you're safe!" she exclaimed. *** After the Sorting Hat sang his song, the sorting began. Diane didn't pay much attention. "Avdani, Kiana. GRYFFINDOR! Avdani, Kiara. SLYTHERIN!" and soon came "San Diego, Sarah. SLYTHERIN!" along with "Seymour, Mia. HUFFLE- no wait- SLYTHERIN!" Diane wondered why her name hadn't been called yet. Draco's had been. Suddenly, the words "Malfoy, Diane" cut through her thoughts. Diane walked up. "Professor McGonagall whispered "Sorry, I didn't see your name." Diane gave a stiff nod. She sat down on the stool and picked up the crusty hat. "SLYTHERIN!" Diane stood up and walked to the table of cheering Slytherins. She smiled. This was going to be a great year.
