(Please read disclaimer in notes and credits first) Kira hesitated. "Buttercup- I- I'm sorry.." she stammered. Her heart broke seeing the kid like that, frozen in fear, waiting outside Flash's den with wide eyes and tiny tears streaming down her little face. The worst part? It was Kira's fault. She could've avoided this if she'd just let Flash be, and followed orders. She could've put the fire out.. why did she have to let it burn? Buttercup whimpered, unable to say anything for a moment, before bursting into a flurry of frantic sobbing. "Please don't leave!" She cried, racing desperately to Kira's side and clinging to her, as if she thought something would swoop down and take Kira any second, and somehow her hanging on would help keep Kira pinned to the ground. Kira was slightly taken-aback by this. Why.. why would Buttercup every get the idea that she was leaving? "I-I'm not leaving, don't worry-" she stammered. "I'll be right here.. to take care of you.." her voice trailed away as Buttercup clung harder and shook her head. "NO!! No you wont!! That's what mamma said, and mamma LEFT!!" her little voice sobbed, breaking away into quiet sniffles as she was reminded of her family Suddenly, Kira realized the extent of what she'd done, and the effect her actions really would have on Buttercup. Despite the fact that she was still a child, she'd been through things unimaginable to most, and the fear of those things happening again struck her to her very core. Kira's voice quieted, and she took a more soothing tone. Quietly, she wrapped her tail around the frantic calico, and pulled her into her dark fur. "It's alright.. I'm not going anywhere." she sighed. "I just.. got into a little fight with Flash, but he wont kick me out for that. He's much.." Kira was disgusted at calling Flash 'kind' but it was the only word she could think of at the moment, so she decided to just stick with it. "Much.. kinder.. then the other guards.." She sighed. Buttercup drew in a shaky breath, looking up at Kira with her desperate blue eyes, that told stories of how just how much pain she'd endured just by having a simple look. "...Do you promise..?" she sniffed. Kira nodded slowly. "yeah.. I promise.."

I know this chapter is shorter then usual, and even though chapters in general are going to be shorter this is actually quite a bit shorter then most of the other chapters I have written.
